    Hiya,

Is anyone out there able to recommend an insurance group that is more competitive for drivers doing high miles?

Hubby does 20k personal and 10k business (not huge amounts), Swift Cover renewal quote is £558, done some research on the three main comparison sites and cant do better than £30 under this.

He's got 9yrs no claims, no points, we really need to save some money and I'm gutted I can't get it for less, esp when some MS gurus get theirs almost free!

    Hi,

I bought my car with 38,000 miles in 31st Oct 08, today its on just over 68,870 miles.

Im with tesco, and there is no mileage limit.

Don't they ask what your estimated annual mileage is?

    The cars annual mileage
  • Thanks for all the responses.

The car is a Chrysler 300c touring on an 08 plate, so perhaps that's the answer. We've guessed it's value at £15k so not cheap but certainly not the most expensive car around either.

I will today be trying Tesco and Direct Line;- I've already tried Aviva, gocompare, Morethan, comparethemarket. I've found the quotes come down if I add myself as an additional driver, despite a claim back in '06 (someone jumped on my mini and caused £1600 damage :(), we've removed legal cover and breakdown. I've also discovered that our current postcode is more expensive to insure (MK46) than our old address (RG19).
  • Just done Tesco - £452.55 :j and even if we pay monthly its still less than Swift Cover; £488.

Tempting to go monthly as we've had an expensive month (£590 on a survey and a new suit for DH), but might just be done with it and live extra extra frugal for a while.

Plus 1200 points which is a bonus, worth up to£48. Cant see them on any cashback site though:confused:

We've declared 8yrs NCD but our current Swift Cover insurance policy says "5 years or more" so the next step is to make sure the 8 years can be proved.
  • After requsting it, Swiftcover did send me a letter stating the actual number of claim free years, according to their records.
However, they wouldn't send the letter until after the insurance had expired. I just explained this to the new company who were happy, until the letter was produced, to rely on my declaration of no claims.
Swiftcover seem to state "5 years or more" as standard on the renewal e-mail. If Tesco require proof of the actual then you'll probably need to do as I did.
You've done the right thing leaving Swiftcover, they are not too good after an accident, as my daughter found out. All they seem to want to do is give details out to "ambulance chasers"!

I think if you do your quote again and say 5years with Tesco you will get the same quote. Try Nationwide.

I always ask for a manually created "No claims" letter to be sent to me which states exactly how many years I have, not the standard 5 or 6 year ones they send. Some insurers will offer discounts to new customers going up to 9 years (more discount than if the same customer had 6 years). So it is important to keep a track of your no claims accurately.

I used to be with Tesco but found them a lot more expensive the last couple of years. LV have been the cheapest since and they are on Quidco.
  • just spoken to Swift cover, they cant beat Tesco, letter confirming 7 years NCD to follow after policy expires.

I'll try LV and Nationwide as well though. This excercise just goes to show that using the comparison sites alone won't necessarily discover the best deal, which is what I thought in days of old.
