  • Does anyone know of anywhere offering cheap discounted Dirty Dancing tickets?

I've tried a few places, but drawing a blank at the moment.
Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
    (MSE Andrea says ok!)
  • A few more tips that haven't been mentioned:

    * If you're disabled - most places will now give a free carer seat along with a disabled ticket (this also works in cinemas). I have a visual impairment and they are always really good about making sure I have a seat near the stage so I get the best view possible (often at the lowest ticket price or a discounted price). There will often be a row of 'house seats' that are used for comps/reviewers etc. so they can usually find a seat with good visibility for visually impaired audience members.

    * If you know people in theatre - or if you can get to know them, then ask them nicely and they may be able to get you comp tickets - for their shows, or other shows by the same company. I've seen quite a few shows for free this way (I've produced a few plays). Or get to know newspaper theatre reviewers, who are usually given at least two tickets.

    * If you can spare an evening each week - volunteering to work as front-of-house staff in a theatre will usually get you in to see the show though you may miss the odd five minutes if something comes up; if you volunteer to help out in a regional/touring theatre where the show changes every week or two, you can see a lot of different things in exchange for volunteering one evening a week. (And if you were paying to see the show, you would be in the theatre for almost as long anyway!) This may also be a good route for getting to know the people who can give you comps... ;)

    * If you're a member of English Heritage - for big London shows, I usually seem to get 3-4 discount offers every time English Heritage send me their magazine. It's usually a good price on the top seats; theatres vary as to whether they need to see your EH membership card or whether the code is sufficient.

    * If you're a student - the Donmar Warehouse and the National Theatre both used to run good student schemes (I have lost touch since I stopped being a student!), where you get tickets either free or for a fiver, in exchange for advertising the shows at your university.

    Hope that helps!

I also have a sight impairment(Retinitis P:igmentosa) and I did not realise I could take a helper free, would I apply to the theatre direct?

Usually if you phone the cinema box office then they'll be able to tell you what their setup is (it may be a free carer ticket, or it may be a discount on your ticket, depending on the theatre). They won't mention it unless you do! :)

For the cinema, check out the Cinema Exhibitors Association card at http://www.ceacard.co.uk/ - this can also be useful to prove to theatres that you have a disability (though most theatres have never asked me for proof).

  • I am trying to buy a couple of tickets for Fat Pig via Lastminute.com At the moment their website keeps timing out The website says the tickets are best available and reduced from £45 to £30 but before I buy them can anyone tell me whether the claimed original price is the price the theatre charges or a bumped-up price that they then "reduce" back to £30 ? ( I cannot see a 45 but I can see 44 on the theatre website)
