We have no idea what you have been promised and what you think of the scheme, presumably you paid whatever price they quoted to buy something you have never even seen? Would you buy a car, which would cost about the same, and which would be yours outright, without at least seeing it and giving it a test drive? If you would, then this purchase may be for you. If you now realise this might have been a moment where you and your senses lost contact, read the documentation and see how to cancel, call your bank who issued the card and say you have cancelled and do not want to proceeed, whether you can or not depends on the terms of the agreement. By law, real timeshare must allow a cooling off period, I suspect this may not be 'real' timeshare so start reading.

They did not put heavy pressure on us, ?

Sounds like they didn't have to.

The hard sell would have come if you showed a reluctance.

Make this your number ONE priority over the next few days. You need to do some work now to get yourself out of this commitment or wave goodbye to many many thousands of pounds coupled with enormous amounts of stress over the coming years.

Difficult to tell - when they were trying to shift narrow boat time share they tried to claim that the time share regulations didn't apply to boats. I believe they lost in court.

Whether turkish yachts or the way they are selling them are any different I don't know. Don't automatically believe what they tell you though - one more punter put off cancelling is money in their pocket
  • Went to a presentation at Warwick today with my partner. It all seemed a bit too good to be true but I was not at all comfortable. In the end we left without signing, wondering what if all the way home.

But once home checked the Internet and found this forum. Phew a lucky escape! They seemed so convincing.

Incidentally they said that until sometime in 2011 yachts are not covered by timeshare laws so no cooling off period. Whether that's true is anybody's guess. The 'free holiday' they provide seems to have lots of hidden costs and I doubt is worth bothering about.

    Beware!

    good evening all
looks like there are quite a number of us in the same boat so to speak
we went at the end of July, signed up under pressure , but within a day realised what a mistake we had made , sent letter to cancel, this was refused, spoke to trading standards who advised that if we can prove we have a good reason to cancel then try and go ahead but face a long battle , citizens advice actually said if we did not have a good reason, then we would end up paying.
reading letters we will try the bank to prevent any payment going their way, dispite a number of letters and telephone calls to a Linda at Shakespeare no joy whatso ever and they seem to have an answer for everything
.am very tempted to go to the newspapers with our story
    any comments
    regards
  • Just found this within the forum
think we need to send Linda a letter or 2

Oh by the way, you are always contacted by a marketing company, which is hired by the "fractional ownership" company. Even I am not sure what the actual name of the fractional ownership/timeshare company I worked for is! They claim to own narrow boats named Shakespeare, river boat cruisers moored in the Thames, three yachts moored in Marmaris Turkey, named Dames De La Mer (they have four cabins so who knows who you will be spending your week stuck on a boat with - as you only get one cabin). I don't know much more as the reps are not allowed to take home any information with them and we are not allowed to use computers to research at the offices. Personally I am taking them to court for various employment violations, (such as encouragement to lie, humiliate customers, insult customers, keep them for at least 2 and a half hours etc) If I can help other people avoid being victims - great for all of us.
With regards to their staff, they bully, harass, intimidate, threaten, insult, belittle, discriminate (according to age, looks, nationality etc) and humiliate so guess what they will do to their "customers".
Oh, and your "free vacation" involves - yes another timeshare tour. For which you pay GBP49 each person for. I hope this helps people that are wondering if they should go.

  • Hi Liz
whereabouts is this on line form so we can all sign up
  • Hi

We also went to a presentation at Hatton and then signed up to but a fraction of a Dames De La Mer yacht (after being there 6 hours!!). We now want out. We paid a deposit but have not yet set up any finance. I have called Linda at Dames de la Mer and said we want to cancel but she says there is no cooling off period as yachts are not covered under the Timeshare Act (even though narrowboats are?). Any advice? Please??
