So what exactly have you bought? A time share or something else? What did you think you were buying? And how did you pay for it? What you've said is very difficult to follow.
Time share is not necessarily bad - but it is if you buy it through the likes of Shakespeare, particularly if it is packaged so as NOT to be (legally) timeshare. However your friends may have been rooked as well but don't want to admit it, even to themselves.0 -
Thought I made every effort not to be duped!!!
I wish I found this site a lot earlier, did look last August but did not find it until now, going to have to deal with the consequenses of signing on the dotted line and being convinced this was a good deal it would seem at this precise moment. In fact everything we did find regarding this was all good.
I knew the free holiday offer would be of no use before I attended the seminar in Taunton but decided to attend the seminar as these freebies are usually unavailable/acceptable to people who live so far away from a main airport. I told them I would not attend if this was for timeshare was convinced both before and during the seminar it was not timeshare.
However the sale team were very good at promoting The Shakspeare yacht non timeshare product and to someone like me the offer of no fixed any 12 weeks throughout the year of discounted holidays being a member of shakspeare and being self financing through rental payments for the yacht based in Sunny Marmaris Turkey seemed a very good offer.
Having questioned everything I thought I possibly could during the seminar and during the cool off period I remained a member of the shakespeare club, since being tied nothing I was promised has come true. I cant book any of the holidays they suggested at all let alone discounted. Now I need to try and get out of the contract. Figures are being discussed as of yesterday that I could never have afforded if told before I signed, I'm not that stupid. What I dont understand is how anyone would have signed up to pay or agree £889per month to Barclays partnership on a take home pay of less than a £1000 per month, this figure was never discussed at the seminar. The finance company that I was told would contact me before these payments started to greatly better the greatly discussed sum of £259 has come back with £253 not a great saving.
I feel a long bitter fight on my hands that I could really do without, any suggestions welcome.
So sad that although I did not want anything to do with timeshare I have friends who whole heartedly think they are brilliant.
Are you saying you signed a legally binding contract that had NO financial information at all?0 -
Tongue in cheek - keep the original loan - the monthly payments are nil. More seriously, you might be able to get out of the first loan on the grounds the paperwork was defective.
But that still leaves you with a probably enforceable contract to buy whatever it was you did buy - I'm still not clear on that, and it sounds like you are not either. You say it's 'not timeshare' - so you won't have the (somewhat meagre) protection of the timeshare sales regulations.
Sounds like you've been well and truly stitched up without any scissors to get out of it. And although you say 'I'm not that stupid', even paying £3000 plus (£250 odd a month) a year to get 'discounts' on holidays isn't exactly a sensible option. At a 10% discount say you'd have to spend over £30000 pa on holidays to benefit.
My best advice is don't sign the paperwork for the new loan, and take all your details and consult a solicitor. Don't say you can't afford one - clearly you can, if you can make a purchase like this - and you can't afford not to.
I'm really surprised that Barclays have gotten involved with a shady outfit like Shakespeare - a few years back they were flogging dodgy narrow boat 'time shares'.
Have you actually received/been creditted with any of the rental income? Does the yacht actually exist?0 -
I to have been drawn into this scheme with a promise of a good return in my investment. It worries me that we do not get a return until October 2011, assuming the company is still up and running. The only way to get your money back is to prove the scheme is a scam. It may be possible to get your finance company to investigate what you were told and what you actually got.0

I cant find my reply to you on here.
It would appear we have paid different amounts for the same product?????? have you contacted Trading standards, I have. I'm now receiving letters from Barclays in response to my complaint. Apparently we are not alone over 500 people are involved.0 -
went to a presentation yesterday - seemed a good idea at the time but now we are home we are having second thoughts. we signed up for an investment of £17,000 on the understanding that we would have a min return of £3,800 pa . we now find we have to pay huge maintenance fees out of that. plus we haven't got any paperwork on the 'free' holiday for going.... going to do our best to get out of this - apparently we have 10 days cooling off.....0

You are an utter idiot. A total and utter !!!!. (hmmm edited out by MSE) Sorry, but there's no other words for it (well there are but I wouldn't use them in public)
GET OUT NOW while there's still a cooling off period. If they haven't lied to you about that.0 -

When will people realise there's no such thing as a freebie when it comes to signing up for anything ie; timeshare or anything else!

I've now owned a timeshare for about 12yrs but the rate between the Euro/£ makes the maintenance fees quite a lot higher!
Last year was the 1st time my timeshare apt switched to making UK owners pay in Euro???0 -

I dont think it helps to be on here writing things like this to trusting people who have been professionally conned. As you can see from this thread alone several people have bought the same product for different prices, the paperwork is not clear when you read it yourself and you rely on the reps to talk you through it, these people are professional at getting you to believe this is a good deal. If you have some constructive advice to help then please comment but dont call people idiots thank you. We feel humiliated enough by the con artists.0
