TV Licence

Hi,
I just received my TV licence for 2010 to renew and is ...£142.50
It is so annoying and not reasonable to keep increasing every year by few pounds(£3-£4)
And why only we in UK have to pay such a licence.I do not know anywhere in Europe people to pay such a stupid tax.
OK, my questions are:
1.How do you pay your licence, in full or monthly?
2.When you go on hol's do you stop paying for the licence( as you are not using the TV)?
3.If you did not pay the licence what happened?
Thanks you for your opinions!

If you are going to ring them up, don't use one of their premium 0844 numbers, call 0117 302 1838 which starts off with the same recorded menu as is on the 0844 number, but will cost you the same as a normal call.0 -

As far as I am concerned the fee represents fantastic value.
Less than £12 a month for BBC1, 2, 3, 4, News 24, two kids' channels, Radios 1-7 AND Radio Merseyside, the finest local station in the country.
What does Murdoch give you for that sort of money? $ky's basic package is £18 per month. There is no comparison.RIP independent MSE.

And you still have to pay the licence fee on top. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You forgot to mention that you also get local stations in every county in the country should you need it when travelling around, the BBC websites with local, national and international news, sport and weather as well as web content to support their TV and radio shows, and there's the 'specialist' radio stations such as 1Extra and Asian Network! What does Murdoch give you for that sort of money? $ky's basic package is £18 per month. What you fail to mention is that with sky you have the choice. With BBC you don't - you have to pay. BBC then use the licence fee to see off the competition.0

Sky starts at £18pm and you've still got to contend with adverts every ten minutes... I'd happily pay the licence fee just so that I can enjoy a 30 minute program without taking an enforced break half way through.
But you can do that with iPlayer which doesn't need a TV licence."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I've not paid for a TV licence for over 10 years now. They've even stopped bothering to send me their unsolicited sales literature :P
I do not pay out of principle, I disagree with the *way* the BBC are funded.0 -

The choice you don't have with Sky though is not to have 15 min in every hour taken up with adverts. There should be one or the other - a fee or adverts but not both.0
