The Licence Fee is becoming a frustrating tax on people being able to watch television in the UK, especially now that people in ROI can watch BBC channels free of charge.0

My defence of the licence fee is well documented! http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2192685
I will resist commenting further.
No charge for monthly DD but there is for quarterly, why?
Punished for how you chose to pay! Punished for not paying at all! Punished for the country you live in!
Whats so GREAT about Great Britain!0 -

Just as viewers in NI, who pay the UK licence, can watch programmes from Ireland without paying €160 for the added privilege. https://www.tvlicence.ie/homepage.aspx :eek:RIP independent MSE.

- Please re-read (or read) post #30, which answers why we sometimes fund things we do not like.
- 'Bloated', 'obscene', 'offensive': more emotive language which belies little or no knowledge of the structures of the BBC. Again, not one shred of evidence, merely postulates
- I support the licence fee, a truly consistent position. Others cannot make up their mind if they support subscriptions, general taxation or deregulation!
- Cameron is snuggling up to Murdoch purely for electoral purposes, in exchange for the support of 'The Sun'. Tony Blair did much the same thing. The BBC's charter is not up for renewal until 2016, way past the next general election but one, so don't expect anything before then. Are even the Tories stupid enough to abolish the licence fee, meaning a hike in income tax during a recession?
- Quite willing to have a separate debate on regressive taxation, but only if someone can explain to me how a subscriptions are progressive! (Does Mr Murdoch give a discount to those on low incomes or pensioners??)
- I read a number of newspapers, all of which clearly separate news from editorial.
- What is a 'clitche'?:D

Less than £12 a month for BBC1, 2, 3, 4, News 24, two kids' channels, Radios 1-7 AND Radio Merseyside, the finest local station in the country.
What does Murdoch give you for that sort of money? $ky's basic package is £18 per month. There is no comparison.
I agree the BBC is fantastic value and love watching TV with NO ADVERTS but I do think the BBC should use the money to make the sort of programs that maybe ITV etc cannot afford and STOP showing REPEATS0 -

How sad - picking up on someones typing errors just because they disagree with you views. Your sarcastic replies are unworthy of you.0 -

Actually the program is called "I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue".
Glad you like the BBC - pity that just because you like the BBC you insist that everyone else should also. If the BBC was that good then no one would want to opt out of the licence fee - would they? They would all be happy to fund the cost of BBC's extravagant spending and nobody would complain.
I watch some BBC programs but don't pay for a licence. I still think that the licence fee is a stealth tax (which I don't pay) as if you watch any live TV then you have to pay it - even if you don't want to watch TV. That is what the argument is about - NOT what good value the BBC is for the licence fee.0
