injured by a road sign

Your right it's not the same thing. Your daughter fell as a direct result of a poorly maintained pavement. The OP didn't fall because of the road sign, he fell into the road sign. The argument here could be whether he would have been injured had the road sign not been damaged.
I know it's not the same thing - hence why the post began with the words 'it's not the same thing'. Why tell me it's not the same thing when I already stated that? Strange...
Anyway worth getting in touch with the council, they'll at least be able to direct you to the relevant people who deal with matters like this. Things like road signs should be properly maintained, not have jagged edges that can tear clothing or potentially injure people.

The way I read it that he wasn't on a pavement, besides local authorities cannot be held responsible for injuries caused by slipping up on ungritted pavements, its not the same thing as being poorly maintained. You could argue that the OP also fell into the sign as a result of a poorly maintained (ungritted) pavement0 -
The bold bit... probably not the best idea.callywally wrote: »The sign is on a bend in the road (obviously) on a grass verge at the side of the road. the road is a fairly narrow country road used often by dog walkers etc. you have to walk on the verge to avoid beeing hit by the traffic. it is a back road to next town so although only a country road it does get quite busy as lots of people use it as a short cut.
Thanks for replys.
When you consider the sign was on the verge and...callywally wrote: »Its a bad bend sign the black and white sort. it seems to have been hit by a car...
Since cars seem to have taken to the verge, maybe safer to walk in the road.

As the sign is at the bottom of a hill I think a car must have slid in to the sign. Should the driver not have reported it as the sign is badly damaged.
Any way I have reported it to council and I hope something will be done.
If not at least I have let them know about it.
Thanks for the replys.sonnyboy0 -

No, didnt see that is was damaged as it is the sort of sign that is in two parts. the part towards me just looked normal I didnt really take any notice of it, but as i walked past the sign and slipped I fell against the sign after ripping my coat and badly bruising my shoulder on the sign I looked at it and saw that the second side of the sign was damaged and had sharp bits on it. Hard to explain really but the sign is in two parts so that it can be seen from both directions.sonnyboy0 -
