injured by a road sign

Cally- I'm sorry-I originally thought that this was going to be another ''oooh-compensation' thread, so I apologise for that.:o
I don't know who would be responsible for it, maybe the Road Authorities? I would certainly take pictures of it..and then maybe the local paper? They might get some butts kicked.:D
As I didnt mention compensation in the post I dont know why people assume that.
was just worried someone else will be hurt especialy in this weather.
never mind have contacted council again. notmy problem now.sonnyboy0 -
Is this sign on a public pavement or were you just walking on a section of road/grassy bank and there was no "official" pavement?0

Some people like to think the worst of others :-(
Hope you feel better soon, and the council sort the sign, no only for walkers but for Drivers approching the bad bend - Imagine if some one crashed, Im sure the councill would much prefer the warning about the sign then an accident to happen.0 -
Email the council again, perhaps look on their website first and see which department is responsible - might be highways, streetscene, streetcare (they seem to tmake the names up as they go along!)
Then email the relevant department and also send it to your local councillor (assuming you live in the area where the accident occurred - that usually speeds things up, I find!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

The sign is on a bend in the road (obviously) on a grass verge at the side of the road. the road is a fairly narrow country road used often by dog walkers etc. you have to walk on the verge to avoid beeing hit by the traffic. it is a back road to next town so although only a country road it does get quite busy as lots of people use it as a short cut.
Thanks for replys.sonnyboy0 -

I will contact the council again.
I was just wondering whether it might be more the remit of the highways agency rather than the council, but not sure

Depends on what sort of road it is. Like the recent road gritting, responsibilty is split between the Highways Agency and local authorities dependant on the road designation.snapping_crocodile wrote: »I was just wondering whether it might be more the remit of the highways agency rather than the council, but not sure

It's not the same thing but a few months ago we were walking through the main street in Cardiff and my daughter caught her jeans on a metal 'pin' sticking up through a cracked paving slab, causing her to fall and tear her jeans - obviously the jeans were damaged because of the poor state of repair of the walkway, so I took a photo of the slab on my phone and contacted Cardiff Council through their website and they sent me some forms to claim for a new pair - the forms will explain what you need to provide in order to claim for the damage done to your jacket.

Your right it's not the same thing. Your daughter fell as a direct result of a poorly maintained pavement. The OP didn't fall because of the road sign, he fell into the road sign. The argument here could be whether he would have been injured had the road sign not been damaged.Cool_Username wrote: »It's not the same thing but a few months ago we were walking through the main street in Cardiff and my daughter caught her jeans on a metal 'pin' sticking up through a cracked paving slab, causing her to fall and tear her jeans - obviously the jeans were damaged because of the poor state of repair of the walkway, so I took a photo of the slab on my phone and contacted Cardiff Council through their website and they sent me some forms to claim for a new pair - the forms will explain what you need to provide in order to claim for the damage done to your jacket.
