i dont think you can beat motability for worry free driving and as for your total allowance going on it id say its well worth it.
Yes I take your comments on board, it suits you fine which is good, but im not so keen,it seems a lot of money £ 210 per month to pay for a car thats not yours at the end of the period plus the other comments I made on my earlier post.
Ive been in both positions with having a motabilty car and without, and oh to have that extra DLA money each month instead of paying to rent a car is such a good feeling ,but to me cars are just something you need to get about whether it be a new one or something secondhand, its our own individual choice ,we need a car for many hospital appointments , but not enough to warrant paying all of the monthly allowance for. Weve got a picasso which carries a wheelchair fine and does 52 mpg so it do us well is reliable and have breakdown cover , its paid for and so that suits us fine..Personel choice id say.0 -

I have to agree with you on this one. We looked in to it and is costing you over £7.5K for three years for a car that is not yours. And then you hand it back and start all over again.
For us over 3 years to buy something semi-decent and maintain and even have converted would cost approx that amount and include a couple tanks of fuel. And I still have the car at the end. So I better off as I still have car and it can go on another X years. And the car will not cost you another £7.5K over the next three years.
I think people loose sight and go well it is only X per week. But it is horses for course if it works for you then go for it. But for us the figures just don't stack up.
And no matter how you buy the car you still need to put fuel in it.

You dont have to keep the car 3 years and if you return it a pro rata of your AP would be returned with at most £250 witheld.
Can you confirm that mate, my understanding is that the AP is the difference between the price of the car and the 3 years worth of Mobility Allowance.
As such it is non-refundable.0 -
our lease was due to end in Aug 2010, due to a change in hubbies condition he was finding it hard to drive a manuel car ( only done 9,500 miles) phoned motability to see what we could do? we now have an automatic on order, I cant thank or praise motability enough we have done without the benefit and he has his reliable wheels and is able to get out of the house it has given him some quality of life back.0

I agree, the scheme is a godsend.
I do always try though to get a car on a zero advanced payment and that is less than total allowance though. I have just ordered my next car, a diesel Seat Altea 1.9 SE DSG semi auto which with no advance payment and a fixed weekly payment of £53.88 means I keep a few pounds per month now and any future benefit increases. The multiplex hand control adaptions were free as well.
I tried to see if either the Seat PCP lease plan, or buying it outright using their own credit was cheaper, but all in all Motability worked out cheaper by far, particularly when one factors in servicing costs, full RAC membership, fitting hand controls, tyres etc. It was no contest really.

The price is not calculated in that way
My motability is £7659.60. My AP is £345 - the car costs almost £22000
Then 3 x insurance £1000
3 x Servicing £600
3 x RFT £450
RAC x 3 £300
I pay £212.00 per month, coming to £7659.60 in total
My car costs just over £24500 without new tyres and I pay them £7659.60
There is no better option than Motability0 -

Not disagreeing with you about that, it is a fantastic scheme.
Not your car though is it, it goes back.
The point I was trying to get clarified by sonnyone was were he seems to imply that when you return the car you get your AP back minus a couple of hundred £.0 -

I believe the pro-rata return of Advance Payment only occurs if one needs to terminate the contract early. However one must have a very good reason to terminate the contract early.
Motability may also levy a charge for early terminating (often somewhere around £250) but in general if you have paid an Adanvce Payment, Motability may return a pro-rata amount relative to how long you have had the vehicle.
In the normal course of things, if one keeps the car for the full three year lease term no money is refunded (other than the £200 good condition bonus if the car is returned in good condition but that is a seperate matter and applies regardless of whether any Advance Payment was paid by the leasee or not at the start of the contract).

Thanks for clearing that up.0

I have just been looking on the Motability website and cannot find that car at nil deposit. It is shown as £699 on their price guide. I cannot even find it on their searchable price guide. Did you haggle the dealer down or something or was it a special offer?. I would dearly like one of these but £699 is way over my budget..
Just realised as well you say weekly payments are £53.88 per week - this exceeds the weekly £49.10 allownce. Are you sure this is Motability (as I didn't think you could pay more towards a car weekly) and not other finance? If it is, was it really no deposit as that seems way to cheap?
If I could also get one at that price I would be chuffed to bits, I do need an automatic or semi automatic car of around that size to fit the wheelchair in the boot. The other nil or very low priced automatics are just too small to carry my chair and the children.
I just hope I get my good condition bonus when my current car goes back as I was going to use that as the deposit (all I can afford) but no deposit is even better. .0
