Advance payment - what if it goes down before you collect car?

Ordered ny Qashqai back in September:eek: Yes that long ago! Due to receive it 25th January and as other people have mentioned the advance payment has dropped by 60% which is so annoying. Any advice on whether it would be worth cancelling it and re-ordering or are Motability refunding the difference as a matter of course. Would be really great to get £600 back. Would it be worth mentioning to Motability that other people on the site have already received money back.0

hi.i also ordered a citroen c4 grand picasso end of nov 2009 deposit £995,rang motability last week to complain of price drop, they also reduced my advanced payment to the current price of £345.dont you think its time they made their rules more clear,to be fair to other customers who dont complain and have to pay the higher deposits

My brother also contacted Motability last week after he had ordered his 2.0 semi auto Citroen C4 Grande Picasso last month. His advance payment has now been reduced down to nil and the four weekly payments do not take up his whole allowance now so he will keep a few pounds every week and also keep the yearly increases.
It's well worth contacting Motability if the AP has been reduced since you ordered the car.

I had similar experience a couple of years ago. We put £2400 advance payment. In my case the price changed about two weeks after collecting the car and down payment reduced to £699.Whilst I know we had already taken delivery, I would have been interested when Motabilty and the dealers became aware of the pending price decrease. Clearly had I have known that the prices where due to change so much in only a couple of weeks I would have held back for two weeks. We struggled to get the down payment together and I was annoyed in the huge difference. I winged to motabilty and they said tough basicaly. They added had the down payment increased by £1500 would I be asking them to take the extra off me.
Fair point.I shall dig a bit deeper about pending price changes before we consider ordering another car this October.
That said I too think motability should get to grips with this and put it in their T&C's.
As I understand it Motabilty will negotiate prices with the industry which is reviewed quarterly.
I think where they secure a lower advance payment they should pass on to customers if price changes before collection date, (they are a charity at the end of the day). I also think that the manufacturers need to get their act in order as advanced payments can change by several hundred percent every quarter.Mine went from £2399 to £699.
Manufacturers make a small fortune when you consider how many motability cars are out there. How can they justify the significant difference in the advance payments. I certainly don,t think that the retail cost of the car changes so significantly every quarter so why do they do it? I,m sure they will say that they negotiate a special deal with motability whenever they can.
All that said, there are a big range of cars that are available with no advance payment. It is only because some of us want a higher spec or we need a bigger vehicle because we tow a van etc that we need to pay the difference so we can,t complain too much. All I ask is that the pricing is fair which does not seem to be the case when you see the huge differences in advance payments every quarter.0 -

Had a wee look for that one on the website and couldnt see with a £0 advance payment and cheaper weekly payments - only one they had was manual gearbox and 1.6 engine. Where does it mention the monthly payments? No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

It really seems unfair the way they want you to pay a deposit for a vehicle thats not even yours!!. they get a deposit then you are tied in for 3 years and at the end of that period you either have to buy another new vehicle , because you dont own it , or you can buy the car that you already having been paying for for the last 3 years , at a higher price than you would pay anywhere else. or they come and take it way.!! And last but not leaset, on DLA your benefit t goes up each april but you dont see that pay rise because motability takes it all. Plus you have to watch your mileage or pay for it if it goes over 45 thou.
Yes I agree with mobility that you do get 4 free tyres and pay no insurance, but to me that really is expensive motoring for 3 years.0 -
And is that any different to an able bodied person leasing a car?
When it boils down to it the Motability scheme is only really a leasing scheme anyway. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You dont have to keep the car 3 years and if you return it a pro rata of your AP would be returned with at most £250 witheld.
Anyone can lease a car and you wont find a better lease than motability, we tried.
And some disabled people have bad credit and motability dont give two hoots, you wont find that from a normal leasing company.
You can have as many tyres as you need, 4 was a long time ago and the mileage has also gone up.
I have bought four new cars this century under the exempt VAT rules and I work everything out before I order the car and last time it came up cheaper to have my first motability car, even with the £3000 AP and Im very happy with it and motability so far, its all about choice.0 -
i dont think you can beat motability for worry free driving and as for your total allowance going on it id say its well worth it.Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0
