I am real pleased I smashed my BMW up on black ice before xmas! maybe the Vauxhall Insignia hire car I have is not such a bad car from what the other posts say!!! ;O)
Now if only the lease company could find out who towed the bm away................emm..0 -
The X6 driver obviously didn't watch Top Gear where they had to get a Land Rover to drag it out of a ditch cos it was such a rubbish 4x4! Lovely car though but lets be honest not exactly a 4x4 for conditions like this!
it was funny to watch and confirmed my opinion of that guy and others who have bought them....work permit granted!0 -

I let the wife borrow my IQ to get to work, leaving her mr2 roadster for me to drive. In hilly derbyshiire, I reversed out my drive, stomped the accelerator confidently, and did a 180 in my road. Needless to say I went and changed my trousers and walked to work.0 -
Nothing fancy but I've been very pleased with my focus saloon in this weather. I know, I know, boring car compared to some of the fancy models being thrown around here but it seems to handle the snow very well.
I got stuck behind an idiot in a 4x4 on a main road the other day who insisted on driving at 40 no matter what the conditions on the bit of road we were on. I followed them half the way to work at which point the (reasonably clear) main road had a bend in it that was closed in with trees and quite sheltered. The road bend around right, I went with it carefully, they got halfway round and went straight off and into a drift. Some people should be made to take the bus.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
The Honda S2000 trying to reverse out of the snowy carpark on a tight bend the other morning amused me. The polite person I am, I waited whilst he made his attempts and only smirked very slightly as all the driver achieved was a crab-like sideways move each way.
I then tootled past in my oldmanmobile thanking my lucky stars that I haven't treated myself to the Mini Cooper I would so dearly love. The S2000 was still there yesterday when I drove past. I have to say that even if I had a rear wheel drive car, I think I'd buy a small FWD runaround that I didn't mind getting battered in the snow for really icy days.0 -
I was just saying at lunch time the only cars I have seen stuck in the snow are BMWs! Quite a few different vans/HGVs but no other make of car at all.
I have a Ford KA and luxurious it ain't, but it copes brilliantly on snow/ice - can't fault it at all.0 -
The old biddy in the Micra annoyed me the other night, following her home up a hill she insisted on doin 10 mph. Any slower and I thought we'd slide backwards down said hill...0

Agreed it's annoying when people go too slowly in these conditions. The only way to get over a really icy patch uphill is to let your momentum carry you through. Presumably this is part of the reason the rules of the road in many countries more used to wintry weather (eg Switzerland) specify that the person coming uphill has priority: it's not easy to get moving on a slippery uphill patch!0
