JD Sports refused to give me a refund

Hi all.
I'm new to this forum, so please excuse me if I've posted this thread in the wrong section.
So basically, I found myself in a bit of a pickle. About 2 weeks ago, I bought a pair of trainers from the JD Sports store in London, Borehamwood.
However, I changed my mind and decided to return them. I took them back to the store with the receipt as proof of purchase. Shockingly, I was accused of having worn the trainers, and therefore refused a refund. I explained to the sales assistant that the tiny bit of dust on the bottom of the trainers was because I tried them on in the store before purchasing them. The simple fact is that the physical state of the trainers had not changed since they left the store.
The sales assistant called the manager who was completely ignorant. He also claimed that the trainers have been worn and that no refund will be issued. I could not believe that I was unable to return the trainers, even though I was rightfully entitled to a full refund, which is clearly stated on my receipt and on their website.
I am completely furious but I have no idea where to take it from here. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Any suggestions and advice are welcome.
Thank you in advance!
Yani

Unless the items are faulty in some way then you are not 'entitled' to a refund this is a goodwill gesture offered by the store as subject to thier terms and conditions which they have the upper hand.
And if the manager says no there is not a lot you can do, and the fact you tried them on in the store and have had them for 2 weeks would also be in the back of the managers mind.
Having said this, you could try to contact the Head Office and explain the situation, they might help, but this one is totally a goodwill refund and nothing else. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
JD sports are the worst for giving refunds i had a total nightmare before and swore i would never shop there again, in the end they let me exchange, word of warning when shopping there you must be 100% sure thats what you want!0

Well it's only idiots that seem to purchase stuff they don't actually want...or find out later they can't actually afford.
To be honest, you should also be 100% sure of your rights. In this case, you have no right to a refund. Having a change of mind does not entitle you to your money back.
When I was young I used to know loads of people who would buy a dress, go out in it, then take it back the next day saying it didn't fit or something. When I'm in nightclubs, I can still occassionaly spot the odd tramp with labels still in their clothes - presumably because they're going to return the item to Next the following day and try it on with the staff.0 -

Well I think thats pretty fair, why should any store refund you on a product you bought, then because you decide you no longer want it, give you a refund??
If you didn't want it why buy it??
Faulty items are totally different and should be replaced or refunded, I suspect a lot of people who change there mind and expect a refund is because they have the item cheaper else whereEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

try taking them to a different store, say your aunty/uncle/sister or whoever bought them for you for your birthday or whatever, but they aren't what you want, so you got the recepit from them to bring them back. You may get better luck with someone different serving you -although you probably won't be able to get a cash/card refund, if anything they'll probably issue a credit note as a gesture of goodwill. try to get some of the "dust" off as well!!
Failing that, stick them on ebay in AS NEW condition, and assuming the tags are still on you'll near enough get your money bck as JD sports are pretty cheap.GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0 -

I think this is unfair, sometimes when you are shopping you see something you think you really love and you get it, impulse buy or whatever and then when you get home you realise you dont like it as much

It always makes me wonder the people who say you have "no rights" in this situation.
Surely if when the OP bought the shoes from JD Sports they said that he could refund them if he didn't want them (and didn't wear them), then surely that forms part of the contract and hence he DOES have that right?
Any clause that says it's subject to manager's decision or similar would probably be an unfair contract term, and hence invalid.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's completely daft to buy something that you aren't that sure enough you want, and I'm NOT saying that this is a battle worth fighting, but technically I wouldn't say the OP has no rights. Try another store, try a phone call to their head office, after that give up (depending on price)0 -
Shoes and underwear, two things shops often wont exchange..and exchanges ,something some shops wont do.0
