  • I normally just lurk on your thread, but had to post this time.
Brilliant news about your back pay.

Just my tuppence worth. Bearing in mind your explanation about your 'leg and back' problems maybe getting a reliable automatic car should be a priority.

You are already more than on course with your original plan to clear your debts and the new car sounds like a necessity.

(p.s.Another vote for dumping the OH)

  • wow........thankyou for all your lovely words!!! I wish we could all go out for a drink together for me to say thankyou!! I would buy the drinks, but being a DFW get together it would be lime and sodas all round!!!!

hypno6 - no, I agree, it is going to be part of the plan. After my unsecured debt is £0 (so close now!!) and I've upped the secured loan payment again, all my AQA money each month will go straight into another account. Other than something big happening like a broken boiler etc, that money will just start to grow and some will be used for the tax bill next year.

I can't believe how well this year is going so far. It is such a change from the last few months of 2006!

Reliability is the key for me with the replacement car. After that it is weighing it up against parts and repair and insurance group. I'm already in something like a Group 11 and only pay £21 a month with 3 years no claims, so I can be quite flexible on my choice in that respect. I'm still edging towards a Mondeo or a BMW. I'm still only going to have something around a P plate, so reliability is going to be very important. I'm going to make sure it has some kind of short warranty and is taxed and MOT'd to try to cover myself future costs wise.

I keep wanting to look at my account again just to make sure it hasn't disappeared!!!
  • Wow! congratulations - I only found your post yesterday - it takes me a while to catch up! If reliability is the main concern with your car, I would suggest a Nissan, Toyota or Honda for the age range you are looking at.

Wonderful news, Oakdale Minx!!!! Please let us know soon what you've decided to do with the money (apart from buy a poker to shove up Cruella's bum  )
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • Actually, I really like Honda's, that is another one high on the list. There is a Civic for sale - and it is purple, my favourite colour!!! (obviously colour is close to reliability on the list of importance!)

Yep, just checked it is still there!

Another thing in the plan for this year is to change mortgages. I signed up to an awful sub-prime deal when I left my ex (GMAC) and unless I pay redemption fees, I can't change until May. They don't offer deals to existing customers either, once you have your mortgage, that is it! That will be something I'll be looking at in a couple of months time. Hopefully I might get a near prime mortgage now, if not a high street one.

There is the head in the sand issue of lack of pension to face as well this year I think.........

  • If you want Warranty for a car, have a look online, you can take out a seperate warranty and they can work out a lot cheaper.
