Found out that unless the new job in the new structure is massively different from my current post, then I can't turn it down, and I can't request re-deployment. If I request re-deployment (rather than being told that I am being re-deployed) I would have to go to the salary of that post immediately, without the salary protection, which could mean a pay cut.

Which means my plan of escaping has had a set back. Unless Cruella decides she doesn't want me, it looks like I will have to stay in my current post. Not what I wanted to hear. I can only keep my fingers crossed that she wants me gone as much as I think she does!!

Well if the job description changes like you think it's going to - i.e. half of your job is going - then that is a substantial change in my book.

HR will probably argue, but they always do.

anyway - good to see that you had a good xmas and new year and I hope this year is better than last year! fingers crossed with your bank charges (I gave 1st direct my own goodwill gesture of an extra 10 days to investigate further so hopefully there will be a big fat cheque waiting for me tomorrow when I get home from work!)

Ended up with £536 from AQA last month. Only £8 more than I was expecting, so I'm not really sure if doing the hours on Christmas Day and Boxing Day was really worth it for the extra 10p per question I got, but £8 is £8 I guess!! I'll chuck it at the CC's when I get home.

Clapped eyes on Cruella for the first time in over 2 weeks. She had a couple of digs at me. She has definitely been made permanent :(. Another avenue closed - i.e that she would get kicked back to her old organisation. Looks like I'm going to have to get her to not want me in some way to get the re-deployment I'm desparate for!

Still don't need to go to the supermarket, although potatoes and rice are getting low. There could be quite a few pasta meals coming up! And, as I seem to have an obsession with buying packets of reduced pitta breads, filled pittas will be featuring regularly over the next few days! There is bag of cous cous lurking in the cupboard and I found a whole big packet of egg noodles last night, so it should keep me out of Asda for a few days yet!

Decided not to do the re-sit for my Masters. I did lots and lots of thinking and I decided that if I felt I had done my best last time and answered questions that I was confident with (and was lucky to get) and failed, then the chances of me getting even better questions on the re-sit (and then passing) were very slim.

The £70+ re-sit fee was only a small consideration. It would have been a bit of a pain to pay, but if I'd felt that I could pass on the re-sit I would happily have paid it, but I really really felt that , being realistic, I would not do any better than last time. I did 3 weeks solid revision last time and was happy with my answers. I don't see how I can revise any more thoroughly and feel I'd done any better a second time around.

I'm going to see what happens job-wise as to whether I continue with it later in 2007.

As it is job-related, if I get the re-deployment I want, no other department will pay half towards it as it won't be relevant to any other job here, so I will have to pay all the fees each year, which will be around £4,000 overall.

I'm comfortable with the decision, the couple of people I've told have all said they were surprised I'd failed (which was nice to hear!) and that they felt I should re-sit. But I know in my heart that that I would have very little chance of passing.

    Hello Oakdale_Minx

I just wanted to add my twopenneth-worth re the MSc. I've been following your thread on the quiet for ages now and think you've been doing fantastically well. I'm dead impressed.

Anyway, the MSc.....the approach I always take with big decisions like these is to try and ensure that I make the best decision for me at the time without emotions colouring the picture. That way, later on, I avoid heartbreaking, keep-me-awake-at-nights regrets, by always telling myself that ,whilst life might be different now, at the time I made what seemed the best decision for me. And if you did make the best decision, then how on earth can you berate yourself once circumstances are potentially different 'X' months/years/money/spare time in the future. You can't, can you? Yes, there may be some wishful thinking, but you tell yourself that you made the right decision for you at the time. With that knowledge, you can move on positively.

You've given yourself some time to decide clearly about the course and you've worked out the pros and cons and you know yourself. Don't beat yourself up about if later you catch yourself wishing differently. Life is too short and too valueable.

Does that make sense? All I can say is that it works for me.

Best of luck and I hope the debts come down quickly for you. I look forward to hearing you celebrate once they're all gone.

    Thankyou Sulumar

After thinking it all through, I know I won't have any regrets about not re-sitting. I can always pick it up again later this year, do a different module, do a different course even! I'm totally happy with the decision :)

I can't believe how windy it is. I was woken at 4am thinking the house was going to do a Wizard of Oz and take off!! Bizarre howling sound.

Went back to my GP last night and he has given me two more months of Prozac, so I had to spend £6.50 on those. He is totally disgusted with my situation and Cruella in general and told me to come into work, head held high, do the job to the best of my abilities and, if I get the opportunity, GET OUT! (taking redundancy with me if that's the get out option I go for) He is a lovely man :) He said the reason the lumps keep coming up in my neck is stress and he thinks it a weak spot in me which is being triggered by the stress of it all.

Cheque for £25.28 arrived from Greasypalm yesterday, which was nice to get.

It is 10p listing day on ebay today. Might have a look in the wardrobe tonight and pop a few things on, even if they only get a few pounds it is better than them languishing in the wardrobe.

The loo roll situation is starting to get to crisis! On the last roll, which means I'm going to have to go to the supermarket today. I'm also now out of potatoes and gravy granules !!! Not sure whether to buy what I've run out of, or do a bit of a top up. Think I'll just get loo roll and see how many more days I can go without doing a full shopping. i'll have to be very determined and disciplined not to buy more when I'm in there.

    Spent £1.95!! :)

Bought loo roll, big bag of plain flour which will make two loaves of bread, a big chunk of edam and a huge tub of coleslaw reduced to 10p!

I've got bread baking in the breadmaker now which smells lovely. I've done a reccy of the freezer and I will need some bread rolls for the burgers I've found in there and some potatoes to make wedges, but other than that, it seems it will be Tuesday before I need to do a 'proper shop'.

I was going to buy a few more bits, as I'd emptied out my laptop bag and found £6 in loose change. On the way out of the supermarket, there was a big display of reduced lines and I almost gave in to temptation and bought a jar of nutella reduced to 53 pence. I had to really grit my teeth and think 'I don't need nutella, I don't need nutella, I don't need nutella'.........

That depends on how you define "need"... ;)
