    Or anywhere but Bathstore.
Would that be on the grounds that you didn't read the Ts&Cs? Hardly Bathstore's fault.

    Cheers

Fair point. I'm not a blind judge, so I don't really have an excuse for not going to the web page to check out the twentyseven eight-by-ten colour glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and the paragraph on the back of each one. I thought I was dealing with a reputable company that would treat me fairly.

But I got some good advice on another part of this board. It seems that the Office of Fair Trading issues guidance on what are and are not fair terms and conditions. they say that setting time limits of this sort is not fair. They give several examples of Ts and Cs that they have stopped companies from using, where those companies have demanded that customers notify them of faults or damage within 7 days (in one case, the company wanted 3 days, in another "immediate" notice!).

So it's quite clear that Bathstore are in the wrong with this. I am not a lawyer, so I'm not sure whether the word for their behaviour is "illegal" or "unlawful". The important question is, what can SingingDwarf, I, and others in this situation do to get them to put things right?

SingingDwarf - did you get anywhere with the Credit Card people?

We refurbished a bathroom in 2007 and used Bathstore, but when we went back to do another bathroom recently, I noticed that the sanitaryware on display was terrible - the ceramic was rippled and pitted, under a far too thin glaze which made the pieces look quite grey. The staff member I spoke to about this quality issue said that they were just display items and not representative of their quality overall.Which, of course you wouldn't know until you've placed your order and have had it delivered.
Perhaps it was a one off, but I have not been back.
  • Ordered a new bathroom via a Store Manager who was trying to serve myself and another couple at the same who also wanted a new bathroom. As the manager was on his own he kept, flitting from me to them until he managed to get another worker in to look after them.
He took, down my order incorrectly as I wanted a shower with a top head and a hand held shower head to both work at the same. I am disabled and have a carer so it's nice and warm to use that way . We did have an electric shower as well as a combi shower but wanted to get rid of the electric shower as it looked a mess with two rails ect .
His answer was no problem there is one in the book that has a diverted valve. Anyway once fitted it would only give water to one head at once. After complaining the Manager blamed me for the confusion and said there was one but it was about nearly £200 extra .that is how much customer services want off me. They have sided with the manager . I have said I want the shower exchanging and installing by them as it was not my fault.they insist it is my fault as I should have checked it did not spray water from, both heads before I fitted it. How does one do that without plumbing it in I asked. The plumber should have know they said. It had nothing to do with the plumber as I just told to fit what had been delivered which he did even if my plumber had checked he would not have known until it was plumbed in. They are talking rubbish. Customer services NIL Bathstore NIL most of the stuff turned out cheaper in local builders, merchants so I cancelled some of the order and bought from them. Beware of the thermostatic valves too as mine does not work straight away and burns slightly before it readjusts itself. The threads inside the mounting brackets were very rough and looked cheaply made. Altogether not a very good experience. I must admit the loo and the sink are very good as is the mirror which is adjustable for rake and was easy to install.
Just now good if you have a problem in my experience.
So moving on I have given them two weeks notice before I take them to a small claims court as the goods were not fit for the purpose I asked. Let's see if that budges their terrible attitude towards a customer.
  • Do not use them . Total nightmare ! Bath is cracked and bath panel is cracked, tried to charge me more than I paid originally for replacements. Customer service is non existent . Having to buy a bath elsewhere now. Apparently no guarantee if you use your own fitter . And even when you use there's they send you back to the fitter as it is not there responsibility. Look them up on watchdog !!! Totally deny English law, I am going to have to take them to small claims court, BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!
  • Before buying from Bathstore.com, consider our experience of their products and fitting before parting with your cash.

Initially, when taking our order and money, Bathstore were fine. On the day before delivery, it all started to go wrong.

One day before delivery, their recommended fitter ripped out our old bathroom and threw it in a skip. Three hours later, Bathstore rang to tell us our bath – ordered and paid for three months earlier – was out of stock. We were told that our options were to accept a replacement of a different style, size and price they could supply in a week, or wait a month when the one we ordered might be in stock.

We cancelled the order for the bath on the spot, went to a local supplier and bought one there instead. They arranged for it to be delivered from the manufacturer – driven from the other end of the country overnight – so it would be with us ready for the fitter, and there was no extra charge for the express delivery.

Next day, the bath arrived on time. Bathstore’s fitter was late and the delivery of the remainder of the bathroom from Bathstore was also late… and wrong. They’d sent the wrong shower screen, incomplete units and insufficient panel ends. These arrived two days later.

The fitter got to work and did a botched job.

Our heated towel rail was fitted with one side on an angle, the shower screen had the wrong angle so it did not stop water escaping beneath it, the tiles were cracked and had mastic smeared over them to hide the crack, the hole in the wall for the extractor fan was cut to the size of the unit instead of the pipe so there was no wall left to attach it to… so it was masticed in place and now vibrates so loudly that it is never used, and when the fitter re-hung the bathroom door he made such a mess of it that the frame needs replacing and the door is lopsided.

We complained to the fitter and to Bathstore. Both shirked responsibility until finally Bathstore relented and gave us £50 in Bathstore vouchers.

One month after installation, we replaced the shower screen with one that is fitted correctly so the water doesn’t leak past the seal.

Two months later, an electrician was called to investigate the reason the bathroom lights were popping so often. He discovered that the fitter had used cabling that was inadequate to handle the electrical load and that the lighting had been overheating – scotch marks were visible where the light fitting had almost ignited. The cabling for the shower was also inadequate, as was that used for the heated towel rail.

Three months later, the bath plug broke and, because of the way the bath was fitted, it cannot be replaced unless we dismantle half the bathroom.

Same month, the toilet seat broke. Bathstore do a lot of custom sized toilets, so you cannot just buy a standard replacement – it has to be one of theirs… and at £40 for one option, that’s a bit steep, especially as you are also charged delivery even if you collect it from a store (apparently, they charge because they deliver it to the store…)

two month later, the sink plug broke – same issues with replacing it, only now we also realised that, should our boxed in cistern have a problem it would flood the bathroom and therefore the whole house, and all because the overflow installed by Bathstore’s recommended bathroom fitter is lower than the external outlet pipe, so unless the water runs uphill, we’re stuffed – and should the float valve need replacing we have to dismantle everything in the bathroom except the bath to get at it. It’ll cost hundreds of pounds to replace something costing pennies.

Thirteen months after installation (and one month out of warranty), the shower failed.

Fifteen months later, the replacement toilet seat broke, and again twenty two months later… At this rate, the money saved by buying our bathroom at Bathstore.com will be spent ten times over on replacing the Bathstore products bit by bit with items from other companies that work and are fit for purpose.

If our experience is anything to go by, I’d recommend spending a little extra somewhere else and save yourself the hassle and heartache of buying from Bathstore. I know we regret ever setting foot in their store.
