What about accomodation etc when at home? Does that not get sorted?
Depends what you mean by a "front line soldier". If you mean somebody who's out there "bayoneting Taliban" Then it will be between
£16681 (1st year private just after training, rising to ~£22k after 7 years)
mid/high £20k's for his corporal (Section Commander, 8 man unit)
low/mid £30k's for his Sergeant & Lieutenant (Platoon cmdr & 2IC, 30ish men )
~£40k's for his Captain & ~£50k for his Major (Company cmdr & 2IC, 100ish)
Plus a confusing mish-mash off allowances
If they live "in the block" (ie they are single) they won't pay their normal accomodation/food charges whilst away
If they are in married quarters they still pay rent as it's still occupied by the family but receive a discount in the (pseudo) council tax they pay.

Plus Op allowance, a tidy 4,500 for a 6 month tour, then there is Longer Seperation allowance, bewtween 4 quid and 11 quid per day depending on your accrued dates. You need over 300 days away to climb to the higher rate.
Then you get into uncofortable working allowance (+65 degrees working environment)
Or working with body parts.
Or cleaning toilets.
Extras for:
Submariners
Aircrew
Parachutists
Special Forces
other "Pinch" points.
Labour will have you believe in their stats we are paid it all 100% of the time, including a twice off education allowance of 2K.
Defence Dental is one of our few remaining good pirks!0 -
Since when did you have the slightest clue what the hell is going on in Afghanistan? I take it you have been there?
This thread is about how a man who has a different political slant and has income based on his status as a british citizen that is being compared to soldiers. The papers just happen to pick on him because he's an easy target.
It just highlights how the benefit system in this country needs to be worked at if working a full time dangerous jobs doesn't pay as much as someone on benefits.
It wasn't meant to demean the soldiers who are serving on the front line.0 -
He is a British citizen living in Britain.Does the fact that he doesn't believe in what you believe in deprive him of the benefits any other citizen would get?And I still fail to see how paying 25 grand to a single issue fanatic is bankrupting us."The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." -- Frederic Bastiat, 1848.0

Whats with all the slagbashing in this forum?0 -
This thread and its complete figleaf of a connection to 'bankrupting us' shows how deep the anti-Government malice runs in some people and how far they are prepared to go in their desperation to throw every and any sort of mud Labour's way in the hope that some will stick.
Pathetic, as I hope even moderate Tories would agree.0 -

No Graham, you were being used to make a point about whether or not it was legitimate to poke our collective noses into someone elses business on the basis of apparent circumstances.
I don't actually care much where you work or who for, the same as I don't care how the Mad Mullah gets his income until the point at which he breaks laws. It's none of anyone's business.
MBGA, are you denying that there have been innocent civilian casualties in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan during this "war on terror"? Are the lives of these fathers sons mothers and daughters worth less than UK servicemen? Do you not understand that their close relatives and those who feel kin to them feel just as strongly about these deaths as you do about UK soldiers? Your reaction to the proposed march isn't all that different from what is happening in Afghanistan, you want to wipe someone you haven't met off the planet because he's marching through a village in your country.
It's this attitude that propagates and sustains conflict. End of.0 -
Just had a look at what he actually stands for. One nice quote which is strangely resonant with the comments on the NHS and alcohol thread:
"In February last year he called for people who get drunk to be publicly flogged and declared that alcohol should be "removed from society".
He'd do quite well on here I reckon.
Apart from that you don't see many grounds for a conviction for treason, he just wants another form of Government just like many extremists, including many on this board. He marches, the BNP marches, they're viewed with equal disdain. Contrary to received wisdom incidentally the BNP are usually allowed to march, they do it for precisely the same reasons which is to gain publicity for their views.0 -
Then he should be tried for treason.
Yes, every citizen gets £25K in benefits .
Many citizens do get £25k in benefits, the papers appear to be awash with them. He applied for the benefit, he was entitled to them as he is a British citizen and he collects them. If the system is changed so it doesn't apply to him then fine.0
