Don't feel sorry for his kids, for the VAST majority of the time they are with their
hard working teachers .0 -
What fathead doesn't recognise is that he's probably wasted more productive work time making posts trying to tell everyone how clever and switched-on he is than he'd ever have wasted by having to look after his kids on the day in question.
Trying to make it into some sort of charity appeal once he's been called on it is just BS, quite frankly.......0 -

We've had our heaviest snow fall of the year so far today! Woke up this morning to about 2-3cm of the stuff. Much to my kid's dismay it's nearly all melted now and most likely it will all be gone by the morning. We had 2cm last Tuesday but all that melted in no time as well. My daughter's gutted, every other part of the country has been covered in snow and we've had virtually none :snow_laug.
p.s. Have a look at post number #182 as well. Finally a teacher being honest about so-called 'snow days'! Fair play to him/her!
Anyway have a nice evening and don't forget....keep digging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (You should copyright that before some z-list quiz show host nicks it for a catchphrasThe fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water

I work in a school in admin and I have to reassure you that these decisions are never ever made lightly. Schhols are unlike most other environments - we have to make a decision based on the number of staff that can get in and ensuring that at all times, all pupils and staff/visitors will be safe. A very high % of teachers live miles from their school and we have to be sure that they can get in safely and get home. If we open, we have to be sure that all staff can stay all day and not to leave early if bad weather comes in unexpected, otherwise that leaves us with too little supervision. sadly in this world of no win no fee claims, everyone is wary of health and safety and Heads in particular very wary of young children slipping and hurting themselves. My Head hates closing school and I am certain that virtually all of them do. I always find it strange when parents complain about their childrens education though - surely they can find something for the kids to do at home if they wont let them enjoy the snow. Write about the snow, draw it or calculate how many angles there are in one snowflake. Whatever - please accept that we only ever close when its the best interest of the children0

I've read this thread with increasing incredulity and dismay at the people calling the Op 'prat' and 'idiot'. I've especially enjoyed the posts from the know-it-alls who've presumed to tell him what the weather must be like for teachers living further afield.
The Ops problem - his kid's school WAS NOT listed as one of the schools which would be closed, yet when his wife rocked up in the morning (along with a ton of other parents), he learns the school has in fact closed due to a little bit of ice on the grounds.
Well if I were him I'd be bloody annoyed too.
I live 40 minutes away from the Op, also on the North Wales coast. People can rant and rave about his ignorance of the poor weather all they like, but the fact is that we have NOTexperienced bad weather up here. I have driven twice a day, every day, and not just along the coast where any snowfall melts almost instantly, but also right up into the hills and there still wasn't a problem! The know-it-alls can also forget the argument about teachers having to live far away from the school because of house prices - you can be assured that on the average teacher's salary you'd be buying houses in the centre of any town on the N.Wales coast.
All the Op seemed to be asking for was a bit of forewarning that the school wasn't going to open. Personally I think keeping a school closed for a tiny bit of ice as the Op describes is bloody ridiculous...I'm assuming most schools have a kitchen. Chuck some salt down! Keep the kids inside during the break time if you're really so worried that one of the little sods is going to break its neck on ice. There are plenty of things which can be done...especially if the staff and many of the pupils have already turned up.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
