School closures are snow joke

I am absolutely fuming that her life has been put at risk by a warning system that clearly doesn't do what it is supposed to.
As I have said , since the beginning of this thread , its a lack of communication.
Its the problem , that while the kids are local . the teachers in many cases have a much longer journey .
to Oblivion , find out how the school should have reacted. Who had the authority
to call a 'snow' day . And what steps would you think should have been taken.
Before Xmas on the first 'bad' snow day , my wife phone started at 6 am , when the phone tree kicked in.
Ps her journey time went from 40 mins to 90 mins and that is nearly all on the A5
Ps dont bother to ask for sympathy from Fat Andy ..... you wont get it.0 -
My 'plan' specifically referred to teachers, and indeed anyone else in any profession, who could have got to work but chose not to.
Name the teachers ..... can you!0 -

After all, they are all trained professionals and have the appropriate CRB checks, and if it is only for a day or two I am sure lesson plans will not go out of the window?
That is a genuine question - not a dig at teachers BTW.
I can just see that - all the perverts within a 50 mile radius turning up - c'mon boys - time for your PE lesson!0 -
Hi Gregg,
If I can refer back to my opening post, in my part of the world we had 2cm of snow last Tuesday (cm not inches) and as far as I could determine the lowest overnight temperature was 0c. However on Wednesday my daughter's school was closed without warning. This is hardly my idea of adverse weather conditions yet the local authority still couldn't cope.
It's a different story in areas which had 6 inches of snow and where temperatures dropped to -20c. If we'd had weather like that I'd have fully expected the area to grind to halt but surely 2cm of snow shouldn't be so difficult to cope with?
Point taken. I was going by the conditions where I live (on high ground) and we have had very heavy snowfall and low temperatures. I agree with you that 2cm should really not have the effect it seems to be having. Although, even in my area these conditions are not "normal" and I do think it would be cost-prohibitive to put measures in place to deal with this sort of thing on a regular basis.0 -
"I have to say that I'm bit disappointed.....waffle, waffle, blah, blah, etc....."
And?
That's now two long-winded, dull, self-aggrandizing posts, seemingly posted for no other reason than to attempt to convince others that you're not the knee-jerking, shallow fool your original post would suggest. Well done.

Sorry voiceless, but I expected a bit more than childish name calling from you of all people. Clearly you have no answer to my well reasoned argument so I've won .
