Having driven from Leeds to Blackburn today in some appalling weather, seeing some appalling driving, can I just say, no SHOUT!

DRIVERS OF BRITAIN, PUT YOUR BLOODY LIGHTS ON!

There, I feel better now.

    No I won't............

....joking. I put my lights on if is dim.

However what annoys me as well is:

DON'T PUT YOUR FOGLIGHTS ON UNLESS IT'S FOGGY. DAZZLING PEOPLE CAUSES ACCIDENTS.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

sorry i keep the off to conserve fuel until it gets pitch black, nearly had to abandon the car due to low fuel, just managed to limp it into a petrol station and it actually stalled just as I stopped at the pump - very lucky! not many people know electrical current uses up more fuel. - heater etc. lights. ...

Can i also add that putting your lights does not mean your side lights. In my opinion side lights are a waste of time, in some cars they are so small they are almost invisible.

  • It's the broken/inability to use indicator lights that get me and then I get a filthy look when I'm meant to have known they were turning. (I'm a pedestrian with two kids in tow not a driver)

We (DH and I) have been noticing recently that about 90% of the cars we see without lights on are new or recent Mercedes. We wondered if it might be possible that they might have auto-lights which haven't kicked in and the drivers just haven't realised.

    Alternatively they're just idiots...

As I recall, Volvo did a study on this a few years ago when they were looking at the effectiveness of LED lighting. They calculated that headlights accounted for so little of the cars total fuel consumption that it wasn't worth the effort to change.

Also, from a safety point-of-view, its just common sense. I drive about 30,000 miles a year and this is my biggest complaint about other drivers.

So I would like to echo the sentiments of the OP - PUT YOUR BLOODY LIGHTS ON!!! It might save your life.
