I would go with GHS - I had the same dialemma but thought if the GHS dont do the job properly I can send them back and get my money back and look for some others - a lot of companies wont let you take back straighteners just because they dont work on your hair (health and hygeine regs) but GHS do.

that's a good point - they had a no quibble 14 day return policy on their site. Might just have to go for them then....

just remembered!!! there is the packet that the heatproof mat, comb and clips come in and if you open them before you have decided on the straighteners the return no quibble guarantee is void! (at least thats what it said on my packet...) if you do go with GHS make sure you like the straighteners before you open the packet of 'freebies'!!

I would recommend the Babyliss pro 230 as well, i saw some recommendations on here and on Amazon and got some from Boots and they are great. Much cheaper and just as good version of Ghd's.
I second this. I have these and they are better than my sister's GHDs. The Babyliss ones go up to 230°C whereas the new GHDs only go up to 190°C.

    Hello all,

Just as a quick note, I've had GHDs for about 3 or 4 years, and love them, though my first pair did break after about 2 1/2 years - just stopped switching on one day... (result = very scared Lina with massive hair! )

I went to my local Toni & Guy where they said it was a really common problem, and they gave me this silvery postage bag to put them in (a bit like when you send things special delivery at the post office) with the GHD address on and postage all paid etc.

I just popped the broken pair in the bag and wrote a note saying something like 'I bought these and now they're broken - can you do anything' and then popped them in the postbox.

Less than a week later, I received a letter from GHD and a brand new pair of straighteners totally freeeee! :j :j

The new ones have now been lasting me since then, but if they did break again I'd do the same thing.... may not be the same anymore as this was about 18 months ago, but it might be worth a try!

    Happy straightening everyone!
    Lina x
  • Are cordless ones worth bothering with?
  • i have tesco own brand under £10 they are very good straightners indeed, but a friend who is not as poor as me straighted my hair with GHDs OMG , it was the straightest ever, so fast shiny and i have really curly thick hair . i still not going to buy GHD as they are over priced and i am poor so im stuck with my tesco ones . which do me fine .
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

The GHD ones are fab when they work but are prone to breaking for no reason. I returned my first pair and they replaced them for free. A friend of mine returned hers and they said they would cost £35 to repair - she didn't bother. My second pair have also stopped working. I also have a WAHL pair that I received free as a mag subscription gift, courtesy of this site. They are very, very good. I have long curly hair and these will straighten it in about 10 -15 mins (I'm quite slow though) I think they retail about £40 - I've seen them do well in mags when they compare straighteners.
