Post traumatic stress disorder and generalised anxiety disorder :)

Thanks so much for the chat CCStar, you've really helped
    xxxxxxx

I can understand the trigger for the PTSD. Have you had GAD before that or is it triggered by what happened? How were you before the incident?

Its hard to tell really. At 12-13, alot of things happened. I can't really remember when they happened, or even in what order. I don't know why I dont recall. When I get really bad - I loose my memory. Makes it hard to explain to the doc whats happened.
All around the same time a lot of things happened. What caused what, I don't know.

Feeling a bit bad today. 10th day trying very hard to beat this OCD, but had a few slip ups today :(
Does anyone know anything about PTSD? I'm trying to work out what is wrong with me - don't know if my diagnosis of depression and GAD was correct.
Starting to look like I might have PTSD and bipolarity with a bit of OCD and anxiety thrown in. Hehe

Regarding the PTSD, have you looked at any of the "tapping" techniques? It has a load of different names, but does at least have a load of research and proper blind studies that suggest it works. There's some basic info available at http://www.emofree.com/. If you've never come across it, it sounds really weird - but there's loads of evidence to support the fact it works.

3 ways I know to handle OCD. 1) Live with it, if you can. 2) Try medication. 3) Best and most effective solution CBT (Cognitive behaviour therapy)

I don't think it is regarded as OCD by alot of proffestionals. In my surgery, I was the first person they'd ever heard of with it. Makes you feel rather isolated!
    Its kinda OCD/self harm.
I've been living with it for 10 years. I want to keep it. But I know I shouldn't

It sounds like puberty - it really freaked me out:eek:

If things are very traumatic then sometimes things get blotted out

    Have you tried hypnosis?

    Hehe, not puberty
Early developer - started periods at nine. Was fully developed by 10.
Not tried hypnosis, but no chance either - OH.

I was the same at 11. Was there another event around aged 12-13 that was traumatic?

What do you mean by OH in respect of hypnosis? Would your husband not allow it or are you frightened?

I had hypnosis for self esteem and it is very relaxing. I play my tapes, now on MP3 when I can relax and it plays lovely soothing positive messages and gets into your subconcious. All the negative thoughts are what you repeat to yourself what others either say or you think they say. I can't play them as much as I don't feel peace in my home.

A couple of other things happened around the same time as the rape.

Hypnosis, OH would not allow it I don't think.

But, I am going to the doctors tomorrow. I'm going to tell them that I need help, and that I want it. Chances are I'l get there and just cry and cry and cry.

Are you also having trouble sleeping tonight?

What help do you feel you need? Do you feel it is chemical or would be eased if someone would believe and understand you? Preferably someone from your family. If you want to PM me about the other things that happened, if it is too sensitive to post on here, then feel free.

Your OH has no right to tell you you can't do something. Is he the type that gives you pocket money and you have to ask or even nearly beg for things? We have a joint account and we make sure we can pay the bills and what we can have with what is left over.

You can buy these tapes or CDs in shops, they are very good if you can find a quiet time in the day where you won't be disturbed.

It sounds like there is lot of locked up pain, which you are relieving with the OCD/self harm. Crying is a good release.
