Big difference between this and 56k dial up ?,
u being serious?
you would never want to go back to a dial-up.
get virgin for a month (for free connection) then migrate to a real isp. and the 17.99 is capped so not much use.0 -
I've been with Virgin.net for quite a while. A year or more ago they experienced problems which were resolved when they installed new upgrades.
The £17.99 is capped at 3mb, the person I spoke to at Virgin said they wouldn't charge more unless we exceeded 3.9mb.
I use the internet a lot and we have another PC networked, none of us do much downloading and haven't yet exceeded their limit.
The speed is good and we haven't had any problems with the service.
There isn't a 12 month contract with Virgin, it's worth giving it a try and seeing how it goes.
Good luck0 -
Hi,
i am signed up to Virgin for 17.99 per month.
I had to buy a modem from another company they recommend for 10 pounds.
To answer your specific questions:
1. Once you've been on broadband, you ain't gonna go back to dialup!!!
2. Been using the service for 2 months now with no problems. I had initial issues which i resolved myself but did email Virgin - never got a reply.
The fact that it is paygo is the best bit. If next month some other ISP comes out with an offer to good to resist, I'll change. All the other main ISPS - BT, AOL, Wannadoo - tie you into a 12 month contract.
There is a 3 GB month limit but unless you download movies AND music regulalry, it won't be a factor.
I would recommend going for it becuase you can always cancel if you are not happy or something better comes along later!!!
Hope that helps

Hi. I am also thinking of going to Virgin mainly for the free setup and the months notice. I have read some concerns on another forum regarding NEW accounts and whether they will be 'data stream' ' or ipstream' as Virgin have been taken over by NTL. (PLEASE note I haven't a clue what I am talking about here!!
) but I gather ipstream is better in as much you can migrate with ipstream but nOT with Data stream. Can anyone throw any light on this please

I'm thinking of taking up this offer with Virgin, with the idea of changing to another provider if the service is poor. Does anyone know if Virgin will charge me the cost that they had to pay to change my phone line to ADSL?? ???
I've looked carefully, and some others (e.g. Pipex) do this to cover their costs to BT if you cancel within 12 months (even though you are only signing up to a 1 month contract). I cannot see anything in their terms and conditions. I can see this as a cheap way of getting your phone line ADSL activated if not.0 -
that is the beauty of virgins service, no activation fee which saves you up to £70, i month notice to quit, however the only free support is online which i believe is dodgy, otherwise a premium rate support number.
The free activation and 1 month notice is the reason i went with themMy Shop Is Your Shop0 -
scrooge,
you will only get charged if you cancel before your virgin bband is fully activated which is £25.
wait until it is fully up and running then phone to give your 30 days notice and ask for your mac code to be sent to you.0
