You'll find no better website than this one for inbiased info about credit cards!

EDIT: Just signed up for a Tesco credit card, goodbye Citi card!

Ditto! Thanks for the tip, Chris.
  • No worries!

Received a letter today saying the balance will be debited by 11th Jan, a late payment fee will be on my statement but I won't be charged it and it will be removed, I also won't will I be charged interest.

At least they have finally explained the situation, roll on the end of the month and it will be dumped!... just have to use up the cash back from my Shell card!

My latest statement shows the £12 fee having been removed. It also states the next payment due at 29 Jan. Still don't know if the card has been unblocked though and would like to be able to use my cashback before dumping.

Today's statement now shows the DD taken on 29 Dec, although nothing has actually left my bank account. As it would now appear to their computer system that all is well, presumably the card is also unblocked.

My bank account is now showing the DD having been taken as of today.

    Check your interest charges

As the payment was delayed I had £16.98 interest charge applied to my balance

I have just checked it and I have only had £2.47 refunded.

Have just spoken to someone and had the charge manually refunded but I doubt that would have happened automatically.

Also not overly sure where the money has come from to pay my Citi card, nothing appears to be on my bank account saying money has been withdrawn from my account and there are transactions on there from earlier today!

Thanks again Chris. This is doing my head in! You're absolutely correct; the interest refund bears no relationship to that on the original statement (in their favour, of course). I have also just received my letter which states that "no additional interest is charged to your account......."; which is patently untrue. It makes you wonder what kind of people they employ to churn out this rubbish.

Also, I think the "phantom" DD payment must be a ruse to persuade their computer to unblock the card. I managed to use my card yesterday, with no problems. However, if their computer really believes the account has been settled on the due date, why is it calculating any interest charges, let alone completely erroneous ones?
  • No worries snoman, I too can't help but wonder who they have making these decisions.

I have some cash back to use up this month but I just want out!!

Just wonder how many people will not notice these errors and will be oblivious to it all

DD payment has now left my bank account. I phoned customer services to query the anomalous interest charges and was told not to worry as it will all be sorted out in due course. We shall see.
  • Have been told that I am not able to close the account until a week today so will have to phone back then.

My card is working again now so have used up the cashback

Kicked up a fuss (in a polite way of course!) and they have applied £5 credit to the account for all the trouble they have caused!
