I used to ask people like you to leave when I ran a pub, same with those that came in a played on any of the machines without buying a drink.
If they come in and use the loo, asking them to leave seems pointless -- they were going to do that anyway, or they were planning to buy something and you've shot yourself in the foot! If someone comes in and plays on the machines, I fail to see why that's a problem -- surely they put money into the machines which presumably (perhaps via some indirect and complicated contractual arrangement) benefits the pub?

Surely the easiest way to stop people nicking loo rolls is to use those dispensers where you pull out one sheet at a time? If someone wants to pull the whole lot out it'll take them a while....

Storck's post you have quoted was about people coming in and using the free internet without buying anything, not toilet roll theft.

I often go into pubs, hotels and restaurants to use their toilet facilities and I can't remember anyone complaining. With some big hotels the main problem is actually finding the toilets. It took me about 15 minutes to find the loo in a massive hotel in Paris recently, and I was about to give up but there were no loos anywhere else to use!

casper_g - as LemonGrove said my comment was about people using free internet and sitting there with a glass of water, nothing to do with going to the loo. But on that matter if people came in and asked where the toilets were the first question would be "what do you want to drink?" If they didn't buy anything I would tell them the nearest toilet was down the road in the car park. Pub toilets and other facilities are for customers not general public.

When I worked in Tesco we used to get a family come in every week with their four small children. Every single child would have soiled its nappy and the parents would come looking for free nappies and baby wipes to use in the Mother & Toddler Room.

I don't think I've ever nicked loo roll from public toilets. Except when I have a cold and think I might need some whilst I'm still out.

I have taken a few more sachets of sauce/milk/sugar.etc than I need to, as they are so handy to take to work for tea as my work place are so tight they only provide the kettle and the water.

If you've read my posts over the years you will know I was brought up in Guildford and moved to Gorleston nr Gt Yarmouth when I became ill 10 years ago.

I have never been to Liverpool in my life??????

    Hi Tribulation
I think this person was cracking a funny about your thread, and the audacitiy of the people you know i.e. implying that this person who did the deed (allegedly) was a scouser and as you know them you must therefore live near Liverpool. I of course don't condone or agree with the implication that all scousers are theiving gypsy b#####ds or the jokes such as
'which is the odd one out... a shark, a lobster, a crab or a scouser
The shark as the other pinch like f### and wear shell suits!
I think they are wrong and unjust, one of my best friends is a scouser and he always gives me my things back when i realise they've gone! :D

as a 16 yr old i was living in a bedsit on i.s while i was part time at college...i was receiving 37.50 a week, my HB didnt cover all my rent...so after paying the 11 quid top up i was left with a princly sum of 26.50...with this i had to pay my electricity...the bedsit didnt have gas heating so had to use a electric fan heater (very expensive)...i rarely put it on as i had little money....i had to get food, pay bus fares too and from college etc. we even had to pay money for the shower!

so yes i used to steal toilet rolls from the local bus station...not something i was proud of...or something i would dream of doing now, but i barely had enough to eat and warm myself..toilet roll was sometimes something i couldnt afford!

you cant judge people by your life...you dont know what is going on in theirs :D
