Open every letter and check internet banking regularly.
Ever since I started doing this, not only I had an unfair bank charge refunded to me but I have actually managed my finances as opposed to just spend and hope the overdraft is not maxed out :o

    Also, spending diary!
Great help to see where the pennies are going! ;)

Plan your meals. One of the biggest things to get to me since I started trying to be debt free was seeing how much food I was throwing away. I still haven't got it perfectly, but planning meals, certainly helps and also focusses you when you go shopping - you only get want you require, not what you fancy or what's on offer!!

And once you've planned your meals, make a list of what you need and ONLY buy what is on the list. When I go off list I end up spending twice as much, most of which just gets thrown away!

  • mine would have to be as well as keeping an everyday spending diary, keep a diary of what you have paid off debts. it soon builds up, and it makes you proud to look at how far you've come on the bad days. all the little payments soon mount up and fill the pages, and it makes you realise you are getting somewhere even when you feel like your not.

    Dont neglect friends and family

There is more to life than money, and even though being debt free and financially secure is a goal, you will get there but dont shut yourself off.

People are very friendly when you talk to them :)

Cut yourself a little slack every now & then - a small treat can help you keep on the wagon and paying off your debt, a big blow-out can make the problem worse.

And anyway, you deserve a little treat for doing so well!

    Here's a few

Set up a spreadsheet Wages Vs Outgoing and budget your paydays like that.

Buy a Bicycle and cycle to work, healthier and more economical too.

Treat yourself every so often and DON'T fill guilty about it.

Don't keep up with the 'Jones's ' they'll only get you in to debt!!
