I think it's a good idea too. Martin wants to keep the debt diaries on the same board though - he thinks it's what gives DFW its character and I can see his point :)
I agree, who would argue with Martins well thought out opinions. :D
  • I have mixed feelings here- I think the diaries are a good thing, because they help keep people motivated. If you know you'll be writing about your DFW activities you're perhaps more likely to be good. Plus its inspiring to read about what others are doing. It also creates a sense of community- which I like!

However, I do agree there's a certain sense of exclusion, with in-jokes etc. Also, veteran users already know each other's stories, so to a newcomer reading the last few entries in a diary none of it makes much sense. I agree, it'd be good to have their own special box so that the first few pages of the forum are free for newcomers seeking advice, specific queries, more general chat (stuff like the "most useless item" thread are good because everyone can join in) and the "I did it" posts. This would be more welcoming to newcomers.

Oh I hope no-one thinks that about my diary. Mine is a free for all and you don't need to know whats going on or who's who! Everyone is welcome! I post my progress (or lack of ;) ) but it's also a place where people can come and have a laugh (normally at my expense :p ) which helps keep mine and others spirits up!

Anyone can come and take the p whenever they want. I don't get offended at all. Just beware I try and give as good as I get! ;):D

Lol- didn't mean to make you paranoid ss!

Generally I find that everyone here is very welcoming. Newbies are always treated to some "welcome to the site"s with their first posts and everyone has been truly lovely to me since I joined.
I just think the debt free dairies - (oops, I mean DIARIES!) - tend to automatically attract those who already know each other, so my only concern is that if there's too many of them on the first page it might put new people off.
