I've never seen the advert, and my TV is almost always on. Is it just being shown in some parts of the country?
Just found the ad here. http://www.visit4info.com/advert/1-Still-a-Pound-with-Saver-Menu-McDonalds-Restaurant/81131
Nope, never seen it until now, and never, ever heard of a Bob being a £.0 -
Thing about McDonald's is that they are a Marketing Machine, they have to be, without them spending such vast sums on advertising and marketing nobody would eat their offerings!
It's not good quality food, it is mass produced, then delivered to various outlets then prepared by uncaring low-paid staff.
As a child I went with the flow and would go in to McDonald's but I made the observation that I never came out thinking "I really enjoyed that"......0 -
Might be a bit older than some posting on this thread.
I ( think !!) I can recall using farthings ... anyway thats my qualification for saying
Yes , we all called a shilling a 'bob'
But two shillings i.e a florin was refered to as ' a couple of bob'.
This is getting OT
If sixpence was a tanner
Shilling was a 'bob'
What was two shillings and sixpence ie half a crown called ??
ps could start a thread about poles /chains or rods
but then you WOULD know wot an old codger I am!0 -
Either my 2 lads are plain dumb or they're typical of today's young. They're 21 and 25.
I just asked them what a bob was and they both argued with me that it was a pound!0 -
If 'half a knicker' is 50p, shouldn't a pound be a pair of knickers?'"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

As a matter of interest the last thing I remember paying for with a farthing was a 1/3rd pint of still orange that used to be carried by the milkman.
4 farthings to the old penny...and 240 old pennies to the £...So...you could buy 960 bottles of pop for a quid (Or bob as these kids insist on calling it)......960 for a £....unbelievable!0 -
Must start a new thread :rotfl:
If you remember the farthing ( coin with the robin ) what about the silver threepence bits ??? Yes I know most will remember the normal odd shaped coin ,
But we always had to find the silver ones in the xmas pudding!
Still not happy with the name of the half crown.0 -

Either your memory or your knowledge of ornithology is a bit dodgy....The farthing had a Jenny Wren on it.
I remember the silver threepenny bits well...but at the time they were quite rare and were not often seen in change...mostly as you say, saved for Xmas puddings etc.

I know two bird species , one is a sparrow ,
The other is not a sparrow.
Wren ... Robin ... wren !!!!
