January save on work lunches challenge

Success! I feel like this has been fairly easy this challenge, i now only take enough money to pay to get to work and it's auto pilot now for me to take lunch - i've bought the occasional bit of fruit, but that i think is okay - i hate the thought of eating off fruit so want it as fresh as possible.
I've not bought a single lunch since i started back at work on January 2nd - I even try to make myself cheat and i can't do it!
I find it easier to get something ready made like noodles, or soup rather than making a sarnie - just grab and go. Going to try ready meals next week as i like get hungry later in the afternoons.

Dishes with mashed potato take forever to heat through evenly in the microwave so Rice and Pasta seem to be the answer
what about scalloped potatoes? they reheat quickly and easily
(For those who aren't sure, to make scalloped potatoes simply peel potatoes and cut into quarters. boil until soft. cool and then slice thinly. layer over the top of your dish and scatter grated cheese over the top. then it goes in the oven until the cheese is golden brown and the dish is piping hot)know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

some days making my lunch is more of a chore than others, but since i've been doing the challenge i'm much more motivated to do it rather than buy crap from the canteen.
I'm eating breakfast much more regularly too (i pack that and eat it at work)and my lunches are a lot healthier than they used to be. i've had at least 5 a day every day this week.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

I find myself making healthier choices at lunch now, not had much fruit or veg at this week we've been to poor to purchase any food and have been living off the food cupboard! But i'm going to start making salads next week, fruit salad for breakie and a small sandwich and salad at lunchtime.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Thanks - that's a good idea. I will give it a go.
It's always an issue that the food has to be heated from frozen - so being able to stir is helpful!:D
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
14/14 days for me! Once you get in the habit its fairly easy, which is great!
Thinking about it, if I had bought lunch every day for the last 14 days I'd have spent roughly £3 a day which would be £42 :eek: which is ridiculous! Am looking forward to putting that money in my savings at the end of the month!Debt free as of 2 October 2009

Had my first slip up yesterday - spent £1 in the canteen on a grab bag of Walkers S+V crisps and a snickers bar - very naughty! But managed 11 days in a row and am back on track today as well.November 2018 make £10/day - £21/£300

 Everyones doing so great.
Managed another day, phew! Still mostly eating purchased for lunches stuff(bagels, fruit, yoghurt), just not been motivated to cook on the weekends which would be cheaper. Maybe next month. I'm saving loads over buying lunch daily but could do things cheaper.0
