  • Hi everyone. Just found this challenge so thought I'd join in, start me reducing my debts a bit faster. I'm going to go for the bringing luch 4 days out of five option- fingers crossed!
Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j
  • Sign me up!! I am terrible for buying lunches! I tell myself I'm being good because it gets me out of the office for a walk down to the shop but I will always buy a sarnie or salad for £2-£3 and I am also one of the diet coke fiends who can't resist the 2 bottles for £1.60 offer! So I usually end up spending around a fiver a day - thats £80 a month that could be going on my debt

I am also back to weight watchers now so bringing in my own lunch will make sure I keep to my points on that too. So I'll be going for no spends at all in Jan and bringing in lunch every day :D
    2019 will be my year!!

Well my mum gets my lunches when she does the shop and i take in a packed lunch everyday. Only thing i can cut back on is the odd bacon roll or cooked brekkie from the bakers, so im going to aim to go the whole of January without going into the bakers beside my work! Dont go back until the 8th but should still be challenging enough. Good idea for a thread, good luck everyone.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

my challenge is to bring in lunch everyday, no spending at the shops what so ever!

If anyone can think of something i can do with baked beans thats not beans on toast (no toaster) i'd love you forever, we have so many tins of beans at home!

you could try it the caribbean way....sautee some onion, when soft add the beans some fresh black pepper and some hot sauce. Cook until it starts to thicken then serve - either with toast (it won't be anywhere near as boring!) or with a jacket potato (sweet potato?) You could also add other things to it like cheese, chillies, tinned tomatoes....you can actually make quite a nice meal of a tin of beans...turn it into a bake by adding mashed potato on top, then sprinkle with cheese and bake under a hot grill....

I almost NEVER buy lunch and neither does my husband. We either eat take in left overs, or make packed lunches along with the kids'. On the rare occasion I do buy anything I am shocked by how much it costs even to buy a plain cheese sandwich

No toaster? Do you have *any* reheating facilities where you are? If not, then invest in a good flask and tanmu's carribean recipe would transport well if eaten with a nice crusty roll :)

Baked beans can be "curried" up with curry powder and if you add a few more ingredients will make a veggie curry that could be transported in a flask.

Chilli baked beans - again, a flask meal.

Cook some sausages, some potatoes, chop them into bite sized pieces, add your beans - again, a flask meal.
  • Hello, can I sign up?

I find food my biggest expense! Currently around £15 a week

I'm going on the Special K diet for the month (it might make up for Xmas excess!!) but buying a meal in my office's canteen once a week for £1.20 (soup) to £2.45 (veggie meal).

Thinking about getting a blender & making my own soup which will certainly help the cause!
