  • I posted out my application on the 9th and received the new passport on the 23rd of June.

    So thats pretty efficient service.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.
  • Do Doctors charge for signing now? wow! Mine never has charged me, but I need to renew mine.
Do you still need the signed pics etc even if you trek to the embassy in knightsbridge?

  • Im off to london to take my dads renewal tomorrow- if your witness doesn't have an office stamp, you can use a business card, comp slip or letter head from their place of work - and just make sure they sign 2 photographs and write the number as instructed on the form...NO STAMP NEEDED!!!
  • I am bald, pulling my hair out, I couldn't find anyone on the list (police officer, doctor, lawyer, member of clergy etc.) that knew me for two years. BUT then when I read again, it doesn't say anything in the forms about 2 years, that's Uk passport, The witness only has to be satisfied with your identity, so doctors office (police have to be satisfied with a licence), valid uk drivers licence, clearly matching photos and be present....maybe £10 £20 but got it done in the end, but be sure to make this point clear because the uk passport needs this so all the people i asked made this mistake of 2 years. I would like to add the Irish passport office were very unhelpful and well....flat out rude about it, Not too sure about a Pub licensee, they have to accept valid I.D. as proof of age to drink in their establishment and have to go to court but like I said Irish passport office were very unhelpful

Hope all the fellow Irishmen can continue to travel and spread happiness where ever we go!
  • Im so stressed out. Cant get doctors, police, clergy or banks to sign.

Anyone know if a fireman would be acceptable or any other occupations?

  • It's not much easier to renew a UK passport!

I am surprised that your doctor won't do it, as this is a nice little earner for the practice. However, do you not know ANYONE who is in any sort of profession?

I renewed mine in 2012 via the London Embassy. Not being a regular church goer the priest reluctantly said no, at my GP's you don't have an allocated doctor. Anyway I reread the form again and it said that a Notary Public would suffice. So I went to a local solictors got the documents signed and all for £5. I did bring along supporting evidence which he never looked at. When I need my next renewal I'll be doing the same again.

    Hi DMG24

I travel to Ireland a lot as my family live there. With Ryanair you have to have a valid passport for ID as they will not accept Driving Licences any more.

I also travel to Ireland a lot. A passport is not required for travel between the UK and Ireland. It is just Ryanair in their arrogance that have decided it should be so! Simple solution, travel with Aer Lingus. Do not require passport, just photographic ID so driving licence, work pass or similar will do. Additional bonuses are that they are generally cheaper and they still treat you like a human being!

If you ring your local magistrates court they normally have a daily "advice session" which is for just these purposes.

They don't charge a fee (or at least they didn't when I worked in one).

If it is a small court they may not have regular sessions but they should be able to make you an appointment to see a magistrate 10 minutes before the court sits.
