Trying to renew Irish Passport in UK!

Ye Gods, they're all at it with their hands out for shekels.
I've never paid for my GP/minister/JP or anyone else to sign a passport form.0 -
Hi,
I've been living in the UK for 3 years and stupidly lost my passport. No idea what my previous number is either which makes me feel pretty stupid. Does anyone know the route to getting a new one? Is it easier to visit the embassy in London?
Thanks

I had to do something similar to get financial support for study. I had to get a 'responsible person' to sign to say a photocopy was genuine and that could be a police officer, GP, civil servant.
The police always signed it at the desk but they never seemed particularly keen about doing it. Once I ended up sitting in the police station for nearly 30 minutes whilst they decided / read the form.0 -

Hi Rebecca
Have a read of this link.

First time adult applicants/Lost and stolen passports
With a view to preventing identity theft and the circulation of falsified passports, additional safeguards are being introduced into the passport application procedure for adult first time applicants and for those adults seeking to replace a lost/stolen passport. With effect from 17 January 2011, adult applicants in these categories will be required to submit the following additional evidence in support of their passport application:- a completed and suitably witnessed passport application form and four photographs, two of which must be signed and stamped by an approved witness; and
- the long form birth certificate of the applicant and a civil marriage certificate, if appropriate, and evidence of entitlement to Irish citizenship ,where applicable;
- additional form of photo-identification; e.g. copy of drivers licence, work ID; student card; social club membership; passport from other country etc.;
- documentary evidence to show use of name, e.g. payslips; records of unemployment or disability payment; bank statement; college registration etc.;
- evidence of residency at the application address, e.g. utility bills; official correspondence from public or private sector etc.

I would give them a ring and ask their advice. (I copied it here incase the link does not work) Do it as soon as possible as you never know when you may need to travel. Best of luck hope you get it sorted soon x
Lost or Stolen Passports
If your passport is lost or stolen, you should firstly report the loss or theft to the nearest police station as soon as possible after the event. The police will issue you with a document (crime reference number) confirming that you have made the report. You will be required to present this when applying for a replacement travel document.
You should then contact the Embassy as soon as possible0 -
I'm also in the process of renewal of my Irish passport.
received the application forms from the embassy a few days back.
The problem I'm facing is the varification stamp.
Several people including my accountant, church Priest and several doctors at the hospital I work are happy to verify the form and photographs for me, but all the official stamps are way too big for the photographs.
What am I supposed to do now.
Thinking of going to one of the notary public, they may have the appropriate sized stamp.
kindly advise0 -
Hi Irishcitizen
When I renewed my Irish Passport I did not need a stamp on the form or photographs. Mine were just signed by the accountant. Might be no harm to give them a ring on Tel: 0207 – 373 4339
Phone lines open between 9.30am and 4pm Mon to Fri. just to check with them.0 -
You don't need a stamp on the photos themselves, the person just needs to sign (and date?) them and they stamp the box on the actual form. If you know someone that will do it for free you should take advantage! I had to pay for a notary as I knew nobody that could do it for free.
I just recently applied for a renewal and I think I may have messed up as I only sent two passport photos!! I'm sure the checklist on the back of the application form said send two. I checked it all really carefully. And also the passport photo form here http://www.dfa.ie/uploads/documents/photograph%20guidelines.pdf says TWO photos yet when I look on the UK embassy site it says four?
Irishcitizen can you please tell me if the checklist on the back of your application form says two photos or four? The form I had was maybe six months old so am worried I used an old one and it will be rejected.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
They have changed the form slightly as compared to the one on their website and its written in block letters to send in 4 photographs, two of them must be signed and stamped by the person verifying the form.
I'll call them tomorrow on the number you have mentioned and ask them about the problem of stamping the photographs.

I think you have sent back the old form.
They may accept it. I asked for the form 2 weeks back and last week received a form from the Irish Embassy.
It clearly states 4 photographs.
Hopefully they will accept the form that you sent.

Thanks! I'm 99.9% sure I would not have sent only two photos if it said four on the checklist. I totally panicked today when I checked the website and it said four. I even double checked at the notary that she only had to sign one photo and she said that was what the application form said. I'm sure plenty of other people have sent in those old forms since the requirements have been changed so hopefully they will be ok with my paltry two photos.
This is such a hassle I'm glad it is only every ten years. My application is currently being checked - I'll be spitting feathers if they reject it!
Edit: this is the form I filled in. It says two photos. If they are that concerned about enforcing this I'm sure they would have updated their website by now
