Cornwall has a lot of places named after Saints- and in old Cornish names, so they are rather wonderful and sound mythical and mysterious... I want a Cornwall fix now :p

Hope you are having a great time Mark and family :)

I am challenging myself to reduce the cost of our food bill too. I buy a big chicken to roast on a sunday. I then use the leftover meat and veg to make soup, currys and casseroles. Get about 3 extra dinners each for my 2 kids and I out of it.

I buy alot of stuff from Iceland. They must have great buying power as loads of their products are cheaper than tesco, asda etc.

I also bulk buy when stuff we like is on special offer. Invested in a massive fridge freezer years ago and a chest freezer in the garage. They have paid for themselves over and over in the savings I can make.
  • Glad you and the family are having a good time Mark.
You have done amazingly well with your budget considering you are on holiday.
Fish-and-chip-at-the-seaside smell is so tempting - it's very hard to walk by if you're hungry (this is an eternal problem for me as I live by the sea and am taunted by delish smells every time I pop into town :o)

    Hi Red

Probably easier to stick to budget at meal times when the treat ratio is up!! lots of saffron buns and ice creams, and plenty of hot chocolates when in from the beach

Fish and chips count went up towards the end of the week!!

Sat Lunch, Thursday Supper (for veggies)

I know what you mean - I am a seaside boy at heart - my weakness would be popping onto the pier on the way home to play on the machines that were old when I was a boy!!

Sunday - fun day after the holidays getting house back in order for the next half term.

    Today

    Breakfast: 6/6
Lunch : Coq-a-leekie from freezer, + Beans on toast and soup: 6/6
Supper : Rich Fish Pie - using up stuff from freezer so about 80p each = 0/6

    Total = 809/906

Building work will start in kitchen within 2-3 weeks - so really must use as much up as possible. Hence some more expensive stuff will have an impact on costings.

Can't even begin to think how I will do this cooking out of the dining room when kitchen is out of bounds. Will let you know
