Hi Mark
Still enjoying reading your thread every day.
Just wanted to report last nights tea as it went very well. Do you shop at Tesco?
We had falafels last night using a packet mix, its made like stuffing, called al'fez. Its 99p from Mr T. Probably not as cheap as HM but hardly any hassle.
I managed 10 falafs from one pack but reckon this would stretch to 12. I made round but flat ones and shallow fried. they look very small but seem to swell when cooked.
served 2 falafs each in pittas with salad and yoghurt and mint, we served roasted toms and crushed garlic new pots, was very nice. even veggie-phobic OH said it was satisfying and delicious. Didn't have a full turn out last night so 4 leftovers have made two lunches today.
that sounds very yummy0 -

He could always have a big bowl of soup or something to start his meal to help fill him up and home made soups are very frugal and easy to make.
:rotfl: When I have tried to cut down by serving less, he doesn't exactly complain, but he starts to eat at home before he comes round... this makes me feel awful!
In truth however, I think he's just a bit greedy. Last week, when I asked him if he'd enjoyed a fish pie I'd just cooked, he said that it was OK but that there was too much potato in it. I would point out here that his portion contained three of Mr S's frozen cod steaks....

Hi Mark, how are things going? not long till Cornwall now - does that mean all your meals will be coming out of the fun budget not the 50p one?
decided to have a quick freezer audit this afternoon - I'm always stashing leftovers in there so thought it's about time I actually ate some.
so tonight we're having pasta bake with some leftover chilli. thought of this thread as I grated the cheese on top - I only used about half the amount I normally would so the cheese police should be proud of me!
tomorrow we're going to be out all day so I've got some bits and bobs of indian food out to defrost - some beef madras, some sag aloo, dahl, and thai chicken (not indian I know) so all I'll have to do is cook some rice and knock up some chappattis and we'll have a feast!weaving through the chaos...0 -
We self cater, so I will try and keep the scheme going - just won't count all the ice creams on the beach or fish and chips!!
I think I will probably go overbudget a few more times than at home. You will have to wait until next Saturday to find out - not sure about internet access down south
