I'd be in a more stable position if either

- I had a job paying over 22k without having to do AQA or work all hours on every job I can scrabble around finding. This would mean I'd have enough for the bills and enough for food and a little bit to save/pay back the car debt I've just incurred (I reckon £150)

- I was in some kind of joint financial position in my relationship. A mortgage etc is a killer on your own unless you're in a job as I've just described.

I don't want to leave where I am because of the location (literally 1 mile away) and the environment (worn but warm feeling old school) but the pay and the way work feels at the moment just isn't good and things aren't going to get better for the forseeable future.

I'll be sending the job application this weekend for the 20 month project support job although it doesn't close until 11 Feb so a long wait. Positive steps and all that lot though.

Im so with you on the mortgage front.
I do think about selling sometimes but for all i'd save its hardly worth it.
No easy answers is there.

Not that I'd do it (unless I were single and after Charlie had gone to play 'over the river' with the other dogs), but the answer for me if I wanted a more 'comfortable' situation would be to sell and move north. I'd have about 80k to buy something outright with. I don't know what that would get, but even if I had to get a 30-40k mortgage it would be a huge improvent.

Even if I were single etc I don't think I'd have the guts to do that these days.

BB I think you really need to talk to you know who about contributing a bit more to your household:cool:

He is also using your heating and lighting and water and should be paying something towards it. Maybe you should start charging him taxi fairs as well:rotfl:
