I've still got my lazy head on today!

Tomorrow may well be one of the most expensive days I've had since we moved (about four years ago), we have finally decided we 'ought to do something about our hidious kitchen. We have a 'man' coming round in the morning to price things up:eek:. I'm so scared...I hate spending money (unless it's on wine).

No MShops today - told you I had lazy itus!

  • Well the kitchen man has been. I think we will be going for nice cream units with scroll type handles (would have loved oak but the kitchen is just too small). Now we need to get the estimate, choose floor tiles and decide what we want for work tops...granit would be lovely but perhaps not very MS. Also need to devide if we are going to have tiles on the walls or some sort of different splash backs. Oh dear all these decisions.

I think I need to lie down now:rotfl:

Hi setmefree, thanks for this. When my grandad died he left me £2,000 I said then (3 + years ago) that I would spend it on Granite work tops, however now the time has come I just keep thinking how extravigant it would be. Hubby has seen a smallish (900mm) range type cooker that he would like (remind me agian how often does he cook!):p which would also push the cost up. Also looking for a new fridge freezer, as those long term followers will remember we thought ours had given up the ghost 12 months ago and we have been keeping it going since then!

I quite like the largish LG fridge freezer (hubby has always wanted an ice maker (you know what with all this hot weather we are getting!)http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1159346783.1265482577@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccjadejihfifdlcflgceggdhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=824913&category_oid=-34510 I think we might both be in dream world though as our kitchen really isn't very big!

Oh yes, I have changed my mind back to an Oak kitchen rather than cream!

Kitchens sell houses, if you're ever thinking of moving its the best place you can invest the money. Plus why shouldn't you get the great kitchen, I don't think its a place to skrimp.

Yep, us too, this is the last major project! Over the four years we have been here we have got rid of some stunning green and pink flock wall paper, matching carpets and generally some very twee decor. Every room was either pink or green and in some cases both. I would say it was old lady shades of green and pink.:p

The bathroom had a lovely gold lady painted into the tiles, it was spooky, like she was watching you washing yourself in the shower:eek:. The suite itself was a stunning shade of pink (or if it was just getting dark outside it appeared more beidge - very odd!)

The trouble is I have never done a kitchen up in a house that I thought I was going to stay in long term, this is actually going to be a lot more expensive than I initially thought. I don't want to do it on the cheap and have to re-do it again in 5 years time. But, if we are going to spend a lot of money on it, it has to be right or I will be gutted. Obviously this is going to make a big dent in our offset savings, but we should still be on target for being MF by the time i'm 40:o. Hubby is getting more carried away than me, choosing a big cooker and fridge. In some ways I feel guilty about spending the money, but we have saved it and we have both agreed not to have a holiday this year (again!).

Bad news: Our Halifax regular savers have ended, I have transfered mine into current account ready for kitchen expenses, however hubbys seems to have disapeared:mad:. Halifax on line is pants! Eventually managed to access his account to see that the regular saver has added on the interest and then the whole amount says transfered..however it is not in the nominated account it should be:eek:. He has been on the phone to Halifax and the savings line is shut, so he asked to speak to someone in the fraud department as this is a fair amount of money and we don't know where its gone, only to be told they shut at 4pm on a Sunday..WHAT does fraud not occur on weekends??????

I am hoping it is just a Halifax error and hubby can get it sorted over the phone tomorrow:(

    Rant over!

PS I have updated the spends!!
