Hmm that's an interesting one Tete. In one way, a real bummer, but like you say it could be the start of something new and wonderful. Do you fancy making a career change or are you quite settled in HigherEd for the moment? Upping sticks to Oz sounds very tempting!!

I'm having sausages tonight too :)

I handed in my visa application to the high commission this morning which is one of the last important things to sort before Uganda. Now I am mind mapping out my literature review (with a very helpful study book by MemoryGirl). Got a huge brown paper sheet with little scribbles all over it, which I guess are supposed to be making sense. Just got browsing at journals and downloaded about a hundred interesting papers. Global denim studies anyone?? That's just the kind of thing I find fascinating :rotfl: also there's an essay on breaking up big ships. Damn I thought my next research could be on salvage crews, perhaps there is already a sociology of salvage?

  • You don't have to go to Uganda for that Lara, we have the Ghost Ships up here on Teesside if you're interested? No? It does make you laugh some of the things which are funded, I heard on the radio this morning that a local uni had been studying what moves make someone a 'bad' dancer (the moves I use incidentally...), or there was that study earlier this year which found that "the longer a cow has been lying down, the more likely it is to stand up, and yet the reverse is not true"!!

I don't know about 'career change, it’s more of a ‘job’ - my problem is I don't know WHAT I want to do, if I did I could chase it :o

Hurrah for sausages! I'm supposed to be slimming again as you can see from the sig but I've been good for two days, I can have a naughty sausage right? :D

    Hehe Tink here you go!

Ah Tete I had that problem for ages, I still don't know what job I will end up with as I am such a perpetual student. I try to go towards the parts of my job/studies that I like and away from the bits that really do my head in. Not sure if that helps at all!

Are sausages naughty?! Noooo, that can't be true.......

  • Hi Dinah, hope you're enjoying your honeymoon :)

Just thought I'd come out of lurkdom to say hello, seeing as I FINALLY made it to the end of your diary

Hi to everyone else too. You might or might not remember ages back Dinah saying that an old uni friend had randomly found her on here? Well that was me. At the time, I went back and started reading her diary from the start, and here I am, reaching the end several months later. So I just thought I'd pop up and say hello :o
much work to be done - new sig coming soon...

  • I think sausages are a bit naughty Lara sorry! We made quite a simple sounding meal of sausages, colcannon and sticky onion gravy ... my GOD the mess! Won't be doing that again! It's partly the fact that we have a tiny kitchen and OH insists on interfering *roll eyes*

Hi Monkeymonkey! You sound like you have the same sort of OCD as me, if I find a thread or blog I like, I have to go right back to the start and read through chronologically, even if there's like three years' worth of stuff :o

I do that too! I've started reading a blog that's been going for 10 years and I'm trying to read it from the start, 3 weeks in and I've only made it to 2002 so far! I will persevere though! It's been a nightmare recently as I've had loads of time to find nice wedding/party blogs and I have to look through every post just in case I miss the one with the 'right' ideas!

It's OH's birthday today and I'm not happy with his brother; he always buys the worst presents and this year he's done it again, but at least OH likes it this time... the problem is that it is a long panoramic poster thing of Rocky. Brilliant. Just what I want to go with my new nice grown up wall paper and posh furniture. Do stupid boys not realise that these awful posters are for lad pads, not soon-to-be-man-and-wife pads?! OH is insisting on putting it up in the living room 'Because it's my flat toooooooo' so to placate him I've agreed that it can go above the door so at least I won't have to see it too much. I hate it though, it's propped up against the wall right now and every time I glance at it I get a shiver of rage! My plans for a nice home have once again been scuppered!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

  • Oh I'd be annoyed at that Birdie! Can't imagine that ever happening with my OH thank god. Surely stuff like that should be in the study/spare room at least? With the rugby head!

Can't believe you're reading a 10 year blog! Didn't know they existed 10 years ago!
