Is it terrible I think that would be kind of awesome?
I'm not too fussed about a proper engagement though, rather just pony trot it to the marriage part! We won't be having a big in-your-face Wedding anyways, a nice Registry Office followed by a nice Pub with enough seats for us all.0 -
Oooh how exciting Cinny! You should just get married over in Vegas too... I'll be a bridesmaid!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

Tete, I was just browsing Tripadvisor and it's linked to my facebook - and it told me you've been to Havana - is that true?! Trying to decide whether to take our two weeks in Havana or Varadero or maybe do a week in each (altohugh I like staying put, otherwise it seems a bit unrelaxing). So if you have been, would love some advice.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

It would be good Cinny, but all the attention would be on his snazzy outfit and not mine and we can't have that can we?! Your registry-office-then-pub sounds lovely!
Yeah we went to Havana in 2008 - it's amazing, you can't go to Cuba and miss Havana. We did three days in Havana then the rest of the two weeks in Varadero - it's a lot more expensive than just going AI but worth it. Don't think many tour operators offer a week in each though, I've certainly never seen it. It's about a tweo hour transfer between the two but it was really interesting as there was a guide on the bus who talked pretty much non-stop all about how the communism works over there and just about all sorts of random interesting stuff. Once you're in Varadero that's where the airport is so you don't have to go too far at the end. The AI part in Varadero will be disappointing for you after the luxury of the Maldives, the food isn't amazing and I don't think you get as much choice in the way of drinks etc either (not sure as this is the only AI I've done) - you have to remember they have an embargo placed on them. There are some piccies on my facebook if you go back a bit, let me know what else you want to know!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Was three days in Havana enough? Is Havana just a city break or is it an actual place for a full holiday ie with beach, attractions, pretty green stuff etc. I think I'll have to give a lot more thought when we come back from honeymoon, actually give Virgin a call see if we can split centre it. Wasn't planning to go AI tbh, I'm not a big fan of having to eat in the hotel - only did in the Maldives because there is nowhere else to go unless we swim for it! What time of year did you go? Is there things to do at Varadero, or is it just a beach (dreading a repeat of Sharm!)
Cat is hiding under the table from the lightening! Also our Sky has gone off with 3k to go in the tour - I've been taping it for dad all day and now I've missed the best bit!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I think it was enough, although you could easily spend more time there, but it was enough to see everything without feeling rushed.

I don't remember if there's a beach to be honest, we had the beach bit coming so didn't even think about it. I think there's a small one but it's more locals than tourists and you might get hassled (not in a scary way, things like if someone sees you chewing gum they'll come up and say how much they love it and how they can't get any and you'll feel obliged to give them some, that kind of thing, which can get annoying).

You can't not go AI in the resorts as far as I'm aware... it's similar in that there isn't really anywhere else to go.

Last week in June, first in July I think it was, it was very hot, like, can't walk on the sand type hot. Had a couple of thunderstorms but apart from that it was hot and sunny. Varadero has a little town with a few shops and a market and a few little cafes but it's nothing flash, we only went a couple of times. There are some good excursions in Varadero though. I think Cuba is the sort of place you have to be very brave to do independently - not because it's dangerous in the way the Dominican is, just because it's difficult to do.

Not sure I've been much help there! I can hear the rain on the roof and am steeling myself to get from office to car in my silly unsuitable sandals!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
