I'm the same when people ask for cash. I know logically its what they most want/need, but its a wedding gift I want them to have something to keep. I REALLY hate it when they ask for cash as 'the wedding has cost us so much' - so have a smaller bleeding wedding! I didn't ask you to have a big day!

I know! I think what really grated on me with this friend is that his parents have paid for the deposit on their house, the posh wedding, the honeymoon to St Lucia... so it feels like they're profiting from us in a way. I don't know... I just dont feel like they need the money. I also don't want to feel like I'm buying a ticket to the wedding, gifts should be given from the heart, not an expected cash donation to their already comfortable lives!

One of my friends had a honeymoon in NZ and they asked for Trailfinders vouchers to go towards all the bungee jumping and other active stuff they'd be doing there - that was nice because it was nice and easy, but also something they'd remember. The thank you cards had pictures of them parachuting and said 'Thank you for making this happen' I think I've said this before, sorry if I'm being a broken record!

That's a nice idea Tete, but there's still this horrid little voice in my head that says, 'If they can't afford the big honeymoon, they shouldn't ask me to pay for it!'. I know that my thinking is outdated and I'll have to change my opinion because we'll be going to more and more weddings where we're expected to bring cash, I blame my Mum because she hates giving people money and I've picked up on that!

Any idea where I can get a popcorn box template? Want to make some little boxes to go with the maker, you can buy them on Amazon but it was £2.99 for 8! That's a bit silly!

I don't like the idea of giving cold hard cash as a gift either, but travel vouchers are a nice thing to do - one of my friends went to Oz on honeymoon and they asked people for vouchers which they did specific things with, like a night in a fancy hotel, trip to the Opera House, bungee jump etc

Sorry to hear about the house situation Dinah - how's your angry letter coming along? Definitely get meter readings for utilities and you can sort them out when the bills arrive if you can't get hold of the current provider information. Lol at your Supernannying NIM - I think Birdie's right; I bet Supernanny can keep a man under control!

Gosh Birdie, sorry to hear about OH's near death experience and your stupid 'friend' - I'd be so wound up by that, especially as you made loads of effort for her. Grr.

Cinny, I want to see your tattoo when it's done too!

It's payday for me today as well, so I'm off to move some money around too!

Got the meter readings, still don't know who she was with though.

Letter is done I think, just need to print it and some pictures as evidence.

    Hi Dinah

Well done on the house, shame your having problems. The electricity (and gas) should contact you by post and they are usually fairly quick.

How did send your letter to the surveyor by recorded post? Certainly a good idea to put pictures in as evidence.

Have been busy working and training new staff. Had review yesterday and went very very well. Hopeful for a nice bonus. Just need to clear the £140 OD we have but not a major worry. Mrs Poolie's letter to airline and travel insurance are in so we will see if we get anything as we had enhanced cover they may accept the claim or not so will need to see. Mrs Poolie will pay for the EuroStar on as a business expense as she was on a business trip.

Nice to see you Poolie, you've been quiet lately.

Haven't sent the letter yet, will send it tomorrow hopefully.

    Hi all,

Dinah - sounds like you are keeping NIM in line with his essay! Love that he is the favourite child. My Mum loves my OH, he can do no wrong in her eyes , everything is always my fault lol. Does sound like he is being really helpful though which is lovely. Glad your Mum liked the oven!

Birdie - what a nightmare about the bbq. I hate people like that, you paid for the meat which is more than enough! I am going to Egypt by the way, as you asked where I am off to.

Poolie- Hope you get a payrise and glad you are doing OK moneywise.

Is 2 days till payday for me, going to change my money soonish after for holiday so I don't spend it. Have a bit of a massive CC bill which is scary but have the money in account to pay it off.
