Thats mine and OHs problem now!! His family are going to Devon for a week, and while I really do love his family I don't really want to go on holiday with them - holidays are the only time me and OH get to properly spend time together without having to please other peoples schedules. So it's a toughy as OH seems pretty keen on the idea.

I think the oven was a really sweet gesture, like Dinah said it was only £50 from ebay. I get where the rest of you are coming from, but I know I'd rather buy my parents something to help them out and trim corners in other places for myself. Sounds like her parents really did need the new oven, and I'm guessing with the propping of the wood and with how little it would cost to replace they just couldn't afford it. Just saying, I'd do the same.

Great news about the house Dinah :D Hope you got the keys today. But what a bloody rotter leaving it all mucky!! I can understand her not wanting to leave (that Kitchen!!) but to leave it so messy and unkept, by the sounds of the garden, is crackers.

I was going too, but then that fades and I don't really want it too. So I'm going to just have black now. Really very excited!

Mucky is the least of our issues, we've been round again and that muppet we employed as a surveyor... well I'm not sure he was even at the same house! He missed the fact the chimney needs repointing, that there is significant damp in two of the bedrooms AND the bathroom, there is no soil pipe, the manhole is innaccessable.... it just goes on and I'm mad about it! Had our builder out this morning, he's gone away to come up with a price. Fingers crossed we can afford it, but at the end of the day its kind of the priority so if we have to not decorate or something then thats going to have to give I guess.

But the white is subtle and smarter, black ink looks kinda trashy and common... couldn't you get the white and then get it redone if you still want it there when it fades? I think you might regret having something as obvious as the black in a few years time, especially as your skin ages or if you get bloated in pregnancy or anything and it stretches or something.

Bargain price i agree, but am going to be MSE here (feel free to tell me to mind my own business :D) - having just bought your own house surely that £50 would have been better off putting towards your house renovations or wedding shortfall? Dont want you to think im being nosey and it is very generous of you to buy it for your mum, but surely its not your responsibility. Just dont want to see you falling back into debt after we all saw how hard you worked to get out of it in the first place!! :D

I can logically agree with everything you say. But there are some months my parents can't afford to get food, not even milk for their tea, the week before payday, it seems stupid that the IVA and morgage eat up over 70% of their salaries. So to me £50 is a drop in the ocean compared to what we're about to spend on doing up the house, and it's just a bit of a thank you for having us there for two years, yes we pay towards food and bills, but we don't pay rent as such, and it can't have helped their finances having us living there.

    Thnaks Cinny :)

We picked up our wedding rings yesterday - and I don't like mine! Its too narrow, so we need to go back and see if they can smelt it down again and add another mm on and we'll pay the extra.

Also went to HSBC. We're going to commit the MSE of swapping to a pay monthly bank account. The reason we're going to do this is it is £133 a year, and our travel insurance which is due is £98 a year, and our RAC is £59. We'd get both of these with HSBC, and their insurance is with Aviva, which is good as they would cover us if our honeymoon was delayed because of the volcano. So its actually a small saving. Plus you get a few other benefits like no fees on taking money out of cashpoints abroad and the like.

While we were there we also asked them to run through a credit card for NIM, to build him a credit rating, as he is more likely to get one with HSBC because he has an existing relationship with them. The bloke was saying they have 3 tiers, and he'd probably be offered the worst tier at 23.9%, but since we only want it for building a rating that didn't bother us. He said he'd put it through at £500 as thats a low risk ammount so they might give him a 23.9% at that where they'd refuse him at £1000 or something. Jammy beggar only went and got offered the best 16.9% rate they do!!! As he was signing the forms the bloke said 'oh and you get 15 months free on any balances transfered within 15 months. So, now NIM is going to call their card services department tomorrow, see if he can get the limit upped, because if he could get a 2 or 3k limit on it we could stick some of the house expenses on there and take a year after the wedding to pay it off, and our worries about not saving enough in time would be completely gone. Especially now the house looks like its going to cost a shed load more than we anticipated. Its not ideal entering married life with debt, but if its 0% debt I can live with it!

    Hi Dinah,

Mind if I join? :D (I think I posted on one of your old threads!)

Thats a lovely thing you did for your parents and I would undoubtedly do the same for my mum. I actually bought her a dishwasher last year when hers broke but rather typically, just after we chose not to extend the year warranty it broke

I am sorry to hear about your house issues, I am sure there is someone with more law expertise than me but have just covered some professional law at college and I am pretty certain that you may have a case for professional negligence over the things you mention. As you have relied on the statement made by a professional within their field whose statement will ultimately cause you financial loss (or it is stated in some way along those lines). It might be worth raising this with them?!

I am so envious of your honeymoon as well, it sounds fan-blinkin-tastic and I bet it will be!

PS Well done to NIM on getting the card, it sounds as though it may be a great help.

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

I was going to suggest something along the same lines as Jtr, but in much much lamer terms! (hello @ jtr too :hello:)

With the tattoo, I'm fairly settled on the black now. Like I said we're having it pretty small and swirly - it'll look much neater and sharper in black over white something like this is what I'm thinking of!

Fabby news with NIMs credit card, even if he can't get the limit majorly raised a little bit of your debt on 0% is better than none at all!

Good luck for this weeks list :) Don't forget that 75!

That style looks lovely Cinny. Would love to see a photo when you have it done!

I'll PM you a picture when it's done :) Unless other people want to see in which case I'll link it on here. And thanks :D hoping it turns out quite like that. I get where Dinah is coming from though, black can look tacky but it depends how it's used.

I'm a bit upset today because I have to take Shanaynay (my iPod touch) back to the shop :( And on the basis of me not coping very well without my daily Glee music dose I'm not risking it happening again and getting a more classic ipod in purple which I'm going to call.. Rashondala :D Getting a Tomtom for my car too, but I haven't settled on a name for it yet. Any ideas?!

Hope you get lots of stuff crossed off your list today Dinah :D

How annoying about the house! I get the feeling some surveyors just wander around saying, 'Yep, this is indeed a house... it has 4 walls... it is standing therefore it must be fine. Money please!' Hope the builder's quote isn't too scary!

I think your tattoo sounds very nice Cinny, I'm still playing with the idea of having a little 'something' on my wrist (even though I'm sooooo not the tattoo type!) but I'd want it either white or pale brown (kind of henna colour if that's possible?) so it doesn't stand out too much!

ETA: Is the TomTom going to be boy or girl? LaTonya for a girl! Don't know why, it's just the first name that popped into my head! Loving the ipod names!
