    Hey everyone

I got some good money news yesterday - my uni funding wasn't supposed to start until Jan 2011, but my tutor asked if it could be brought forward, on the off chance. They have agreed and I can go full-time from April!!! So today I can quit my job. :T (Slightly worried as I think my boss will be quite shocked).

The bursary itself is a bit better than the usual student funding, so I will be able to do my Uganda trips without having to find any extra money. And perhaps I will even be able to save a wee tiny bit for the wedding. :money:

Wendz let's make a time to meet up in the next few weeks, anybody else in travelling distance of London that wants to join?

That's brill news Lara! A bit nervewracking about quitting your job so soon, but definitely worthy of a twirly Martin :D Where is the bursary from? I bet you can't wait to start!

I'm currently working on a future plan too - the only thing that is definite is that I'd like to be moving in one direction (preferably the right direction) by the time I'm 30, which means getting a move on now!

I've got the tedious job of looking into House and Pet insurance renewals today *yawn*

I'd be up for the meet up too! We could have special 'I heart Martin' or 'Dinah fan club' badges :rotfl:

    Thats great news Lara.

Well my money news is not so good. NIMs dad has said the maximum he will be giving us for the deposit is £20k, which is significantly less than he had previously given the impression of. That doesn't even get us to the 15% mark, which is the minimum we need to be able to afford the deposit. So we now have some big decisions to make, basically we can loose the deposit and cancel the honeymoon, or we can get the house then pay for a lot of the wedding stuff on credit cards and start married life debt clearing. Neither is ideal by any means.

Added to everything I woke in the middle of the night with a screaming migrane, which is a lot better now but by no means gone, but I just can't sleep anymore.

Oh no Dinah, that is bad news. Neither would be good although I would be tempted to go for the paying for the wedding on credit cards as I really don't think you should miss out on your dream honeymoon. You have paid off vast chunks of debt before so I am sure you can do it, but as you said isn't a great way to start married life.

Bad news for me as well, just had a message from insurance company who are saying might have to settle for 50/50 as there is no proof either way. They are queerying a few things on the others persons statement they made though. My Dads been saying not to settle for 50/50 but on the message they said they wouldn't take it to court, so does that mean I would have to do it myself?

Lara and Poddle - when are you free? Is it going to be a weekend? I am busy the next couple but later next month may be good.

Yes unfortunately I think it does Wendz.

I'm leaning towards the CC route too... not ideal but I only get one wedding. And I've spent the last few years playing catch up, an extra one won't make a difference at this point!

How annoying, will speak to my Dad and see what he says.

I think you would regret it if you scrimped on the wedding so sounds like a slightly better option.

So I've been numbers running this afternoon. If we keep saving £1k a month towards the wedding we'll actually only be £1000 short by the time the wedding comes around however the house buying has a lot more costs associated than I've really worked out. So to enter the marriage debt free we need....

    £1000 wedding
    £1560 Stamp duty
    £800 survey
    £800 conveyancing
    £3400 rest of deposit
    £200 van rental and moving
    £4125 morgage
    £1000 pay of student OD
    £1550 CC
= £14.435... so nearly £2.5k per month.... yeah, thats not going to happen... more thought is needed....

Dinah - Don't you know some people survey people from your work you can call a favour from? Van rental - £200? you sure if you get vans at a decent price. Can't you turn it into a party with your friends to help lift and carry and move stuff with you?

Your student OD might have to sit on the back burner along with the CC.

The actual van rental is £85, but I need to pay £25 each to my brother and his friend to help us move, and I need insurance on the van for the day for my dad, as he's cheaper than me or NIM to insure on it for the day. Sadly I don't really have any male friends in the area who could help.

Well I got a bit proactive today, and finally finished the Ombudsman form, so if I can get NIM to scan all the info for me, I can submit that tomorrow.

The CC and OD need clearing before we can get the morgage as otherwise the bank just 'deduct' it from our deposit so we still don't hit the 15%.

  • Hi all,

Scan went great and baby is growing within the normal ranges. They didn't give an estimate but just said there were no problems. She didn't spend too much time showing us the baby but it was good to see him/her again icon_smile.gif

On another note I was awake from about 3.45am-7am this morning with waves of period pains/cramps. I really thought this was it but obviously it wasn't! I was timing the waves and they were 5 mins apart and then went to 10/12 mins apart and then at 7am I fell asleep. So what was all that about??? It must be false labour - I wasn't impressed at all icon_sad.gif

My pelvis really aches today and I went for a long walk but am really starting to get sore and uncomfortable now. The joys!

On a more positive note - my deposit came back so my baby savings are up to £3700. Am quite chuffed with that. I hope to have about £4500 by the time the baby is born (money from end of Feb work cheque)

Dinah - sorry to hear about your deposit. I have no doubt you will find out a way to do it though.

Wendz, Lara and Poddle - would defo be up for a London meet but will have to wait a few months and maybe meet you all during the summer when OH can mind this little bundle that is headed my way!

Lara - great news that you can quit your job

Wendz- sorry you had bad money news as well :(
