I have to have a tooth out
Going back in 2 weeks to have it done, and I'm going to book a couple of 'sulk' days off work!
Tete, golf has been put on the back burner as it's too cold to wander around on a soggy green at the moment! I might get back into it when it gets warmer! That's if I remember how to swing the club!
Tink, I'm going to the class with my SIL; I don't really have the guts to go on my own! I don't mind going alone after a few sessions of something once I get to know a few faces and have an idea of what I'm doing but I always like to be a beginner with a friend!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

It's funny isn't it? I go to classes to meet new people but I need someone I know there to hold my hand! I'm a lot more confident talking to new people when I've got someone to talk to them with if that makes sense. At Rugby if I'm on my own I really clam up and can't talk to anyone but if OH or another friend is there I'll talk to everyone and be really chatty! I wish I wasn't so weird!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

I clam up if I'm on my own with a bunch of strangers but if it's just me and one stranger I'm OK - internet dating never fazed me but something like that cheerleading class would!
Anyway, they always say to do classes and things as a way of making friends but I find that when you go to them they're full of people who are already with their friends so they don't talk to you anyway!
Rubbish about the tooth - is it the wisdom tooth causing the problems?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Hope the dentist was OK Birdie.
I am scared of going to classes on my own too, although i used to go to fitness classes on my own at uni. I want to start going to something though so might just have to be brave.
Cheerleading sounds fun! I tried out for our uni cheerleading team but didn't get in, boohoo :rotfl:Did pole dancing instead0 -
Afternoon all!
I don't really like going to classes on my own either but when I moved to Sussex first I signed up for the interior design course (1 day a week part-time) because I was working from home and didn't know anyone. It was a bit nerve-wracking but I made some lovely friends there.
Then when we moved to Reading (5 months pregnant) I knew I would have to make an effort as well (due to working from home) and I have started to meet some other mums and mums to be. It can be quite hard work at the beginning but I don't want to be isolated. I love spending time with OH but it is very important for me to have my own friends as well. If I still lived in Ireland I know I would not make an effort and would rope my Mum/sister/friend into doing things with me.
As a result I have lots of friends from different parts of the UK(as well as Irish friends) and it is really nice.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

That is really good CMD, sounds like you have made some lovely friends.
I find it a bit isolating up in London although I do spend a lot of weekends down in Southampton with my family/friends. I wish I had people to socialise with during the week, I do sometimes with work people but not too often.0 -

How about doing an evening class (10 weeks). That way you are not committing for too long. I think in cities especially, you will find a lot of people join evening classes to make friends. You could also see if some of your workmates want to take an evening class. I went salsa dancing with friends from work in Edinburgh. We had a right laugh and some of my own friends started to come along and made friends with my work mates.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

This is very reassuring!
I've always thought I was weird and a bit shy! I think it's so difficult to meet new people, other than friends of friends, especially if you work in a tiny company like mine!
I live in Brighton which is only about 20 miles from where I grew up and have lots of friends, so I tend to go back there at weekends and don't really know many people here.
CMD, you've got a really positive attitude! So brave moving to a new place 5 months pregnant!
My main worry about not having kids is that it precludes you from meeting people - you don't have the opportunities such as antenatal, nursery, schools etcLBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -

I was living in Brighton until October Poddle - that is a shame we could have met up if I was still living there!
The only reason we moved is because OH got a job near Reading and it wasn't feasible to commute. When there is a baby on the way you definitely re-focus your plans - although I was sad to leave Brighton behind.
I think it is normal to feel nervous about joining something by yourself. But when you do force yourself you do feel better about things.
In fact (I'm sure Poolie won't mind me saying this) I am hoping to meet up with Poolie and Mrs P,with my OH, when the little one is born, as he doesn't live too far away from me. It was Poolie that highlighted that we lived near to each other so it will be nice to meet upTotal (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
