Nope not giving you the links now - this is YOUR wedding not anyone elses! Even your OH is telling you to do what you want, if he hasn't said he'd rather have it here then don't second guess him - and have what you want! You've always said you'd like friends and family there but won't be upset if they can't make it, so don't give up on your dream wedding.
Well said, it's your wedding Birdie and a gorgeous Caribbean wedding beats a 'home' one anyday, unless of course you live in the Caribbean0 -
You're probably right, but it's all making me feel very confused and upset. I think I need to see my options so I know we're making the right choice.
Okay here are 3 packages. The first one is where we're getting married, they have a rolling thing every year on these prices apparently, so you could book in September for a wedding the following March or whathave you, but can't book years in advance. Its a gorgeous place, all open fires and vaulted ceilings with a games room, you'd have it all to yourselves, could even make it up as a Harry potter themed castleDon't think it includes the disco, this is £250.
Second place is in Darlington, lovely hotel, private bar etc, big dance floor. Includes the disco.
Third place is near yarm and the airport, haven't been but its by far the cheapest of the bunch at only £1000 and apparently quite nice.
Basically if you are seriously considering doing an at home wedding, google wedding venues Ripon, or wedding venues Yorkshire - most of them will have a package, I couldn't find the one that included the car and the photographer, but I'm sure there are plenty out there that do.
I'm quite annoyed at OH's best friends. He'd go to the ends of the Earth for his friends but none of them have been honest with us. They've all said that they're looking forward to coming and how much fun it will be etc then I find out on the grapevine from one of OH's friends who has said that he will do his very best to come that OH's oldest best friends (who are brothers) have told him that they're most likely not coming because they can't afford it. They can still afford to go on 2 ski holidays this year but not to their best friend's wedding. I understand it's a lot of money but why not tell us flat out what's going on? One of them is supposed to be OH's best man! When's he planning on letting us know that he won't be there to fulfil his duties?!
We're in the same boat, NIM hasn't heard from his best man in about 4 months, so he's decided stuff him and he's asked his brother. Its not so much the not going as the not telling us that is so annoying! I can fully understand someone straight out saying 'we can't afford it' and thats fair enough! Equally I am unlikely to go to a wedding abroad as it dictates when and where I go on holiday that year which I don't appreciate, unless its a place I want to go anyway. So I can understand the skiing brothers, but again, they should be honest about it.Swinstie73 wrote: »Well said, it's your wedding Birdie and a gorgeous Caribbean wedding beats a 'home' one anyday, unless of course you live in the Caribbean
OI! Different strokes for different folks! For some the wedding abroad is the dream, and honestly I would have loved a romantic wedding on an Italian terrace, but more than the setting to me is having people there, and thats why I've gone with a home wedding, and it'll be special to me because of the people, the honeymoon will be the amazing holidayDebt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Love all the dresses Dinah - I really like the style of dress you are going for - very elegant
Birdie - some advice from someone who has gotten married abroad. Go for it - it is your day! However, people will not commit to going until you sort out a date as it is too up in the air. What you need to do is sort out your bridesmaid first- see if she is defo going. Then if she isn't pick the date that suits you and your OH. Then you need to send out a Save The Date (can make one yourself - we did) card outlining all the prices and websites that people can book the wedding/holiday on.
Lastly - you will end up with people that go to the wedding that really want to go. That might not necessarily be the people you expect. My brother got married in Oz (lives there) and people that he was close to let him down, but other people came. He found that the people that he thought he was closest to don't even bother to keep in contact now. Unfortunately as we get older people drift away. Another lesson I learnt was that you don't necessarily get back from people what you put in.
We were lucky to get pretty much everyone we wanted at our wedding but the support before the wedding came from unexpected sources and not necessarily the people I had supported during their wedding planning.
You sound a bit all over the place at the moment, even with regards dresses. I think if you just book a date you will feel better. Don't organise a date around a bridesmaid that potentially won't go though, she needs to let you know.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Thanks for the links, I shall look at them and report back!
How about this for a happy medium? I've just e-mailed them for a price, although it's probably way out of our league!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Its a good idea if you want everyone there. It looks pretty too. Although I had to laugh that the one guy in shorts has been put right at the front of the shot in the packages bar piccie!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

:rotfl::rotfl:It's only cos I love the Caribbean (and OH hasn't proposed yet, boo).
My ideal wedding would be just me and OH at Gretna (he's been married before) then a fab honeymoon in the Caribbean or the Maldives/Mauritius then a smallish party when we got home. Ok, just need to get him drunk now and hotfoot it to Gretna0 -
Thanks CMD! You're right about friends letting you down, my oldest friends haven't even spoken to me this year so I really don't expect them to make the effort to come to my wedding, even if it was at home, I'm sure they'd come up with a lame excuse!

Your welcome. I think you just need to work out exactly what you want and then go for it. You will end up with a lovely crowd at your wedding and can still have a party when you come back. Lucky you - getting to wear a dress twiceTotal (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

It's so true what you say CMD - not just with weddings but with everything in life. I got so sick of sending out birthday cards all year and then only getting about three in return, I've stopped bothering with people who don't bother with me and I feel loads better for itWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0
