Chosen my "do something different" recipe for today. Went away for the weekend and my mum had this when we went for dinner - looked delicious so giving it go tonight.

Seared Scallops with pancetta and pea puree

I will report back later with results but looks my level of nice and easy :)

I have finally got my cook books unpacked from the box they've been in for 2 years!!! My plan is to pick a different book each week and choose 1 new recipe from it to try. Tonight I made chicken pakoras and naan bread to have with butter chicken (a slimming world recipe), all were things I'd never done before although I have done lots of curries before. I have to say I'm not a big curry fan but OH loves them so I give in and make them occasionally! I like my food hot but I prefer mexican type flavours to indian.

Oh and I also made rhubarb and custard muffins for the first time, the recipe said it made 10 or 12.....I got 8 huge muffins and 12 good sized buns (I only have an 8 hole muffin tin and didn't want to have the oven on for twice as long doing 2 seperate batches!).

Hopefully I'll be back with an update soon!!

I have to report on another complete winner of a new recipe. Nigella Lawson's Kitchen ROCKS! Everything I have cooked from it is fantastic....

Tonights winning recipe was Indian rubber lamb chops, with a combo of the butternut salad and indian spiced potatoes. It was amazingly easy to cook/prepare and super tasty.

Macerating the red onion with lime juice makes such a difference to the taste. I would recommend the book 100%

I made oven fried chilli chicken http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ovenfriedchillichick_86437. Made this when I first got the Anjum Anand book in 2008 but have not since. Also I used up some breadcrumbs that I had in the freezer for a while too.

This week I have 3 new recipes planned:

    Paprika pork
    Chunky minestrone soup
    Pizza swirls

Nothing too adventurous but atleast it'll be a change!!! I never usually follow a recipe for making soup and have often ended up with about 10 portions of something that is barely edible so hopefully the minestrone will be a success!!

Doing very well on the cook something different challenge chez HC:

The last week we have had-
speedy scallopini with rapid roastini from Nigella Kitchen we had this with steamed cabbage-fantastic 10 min dinner (I had made the gnocchi previously in the oven, but on the hob-so much quicker and slightly tastier-I use shrink-wrapped tesco gnocchi)

vietnamese pork noodle soup from NK. Again-very yummy, and used 1 boneless pork loin chop as opposed to pork fillet-served 2 generously (with leftover broth, pak choi and beansprouts for lunch the next day-yum)

tasty crusted cod, mashy peas, salad and tartare sauce from Jamie's 30 minute meals. This was nice, I have to admit to subsitutes-whiting rather than cod (bought rtc in waitrose :money:) new spuds in skins rather than bakers, and bought tartare sauce (I had it in, so didnt see point in making it) and the salad was just rocket with evoo and balsamic) It was very quick, and tasty.

Asian style salmon, with noodle broth from Jamie's 30 MM. This was HOT! I made the sauce for the salmon with just under half a chilli, and OH couldn't have any of it on top, and I used 1 chilli for the broth which was bearable, it was full of flavour but next time will cut back on the chilli (and the ginger in the paste as I think that contributed a large part to the excess heat)

Still to come in the next week:

pasta with pancetta, parsley and peppers from nigella kitchen

pork, leeks and green peppercorns from tender-nigel slater

Thai chicken noodle soup from nigella kitchen-this depends on if we have roast chicken this weekend-we might have pork or lamb instead. or gammon....

Grilled cod with a leek, goat's butter and grated cheese topping tonight - very lovely and good for those who don't like fish as you cannot taste the fish at all.

    Sticky Pan-Fried Scallops
    Sweet chilli rice

    lovely.
