    Some lovely recipes on here now :) those paprika ribs look right up my street Julie 67 :)

    Thanks for the idea on scallops McPesl I think they are going to form a normal buy from now at those prices :)

    So last nights haddock chowder - Jamie 30mins was absolutely delicious and unlike some of his recipes in that book did actually take no time at all. One potion left which has hit the trusty freezer.

    So with the other haddock fillet, the scallops, some prawns and the rest of the potatos Im off now to find a luxurious fish pie for tonight. I certainly will be getting my fish quota this week :)

    Hotcookie the tartiflette sounds gorgeous! So does the haddock chowder Nelski!
    Well we've been living out of the freezer due to my having a migraine, so all the big plans for meals on Wednesday and Thursday just didn't work out, so frozen haddock and chippy chips last night I'm afraid!
    Not sure what to cook tonight. Got some chorizo stew made, but I'm not sure I can face it- tummy still a bit funny after the migraine.
    Mollythewestie How did the rabbit go? I really love rabbit, and had it in lots of beautiful ways in Spain
    I'll go and have a look.....

    Ok, it's chicken livers in sherry sauce from "Tapas" (can't find the author)
    I've got a pile of livers in the freezer, and the rest of the ingredients in cupboards. I'll triple up the recipe for a main meal and serve with rice methinks.
    Saving up £25000/£3500 by Jan 1st 2012 by selling my clutter. Remember I'm doing it for Dad.
    Textiles, languages, travel and a lovely home are not stupid things to want. You have immediate family's support.Appreciate what I've achieved so far. Other people's opinion of me is none of my business.
  • What a brilliant idea! I get sick to death of eating the same old stuff but I'm the cook so it's my own fault. I don't ever use a recipe, just stick to the tried and true, or basically randomly make stuff up, but this is inspiring me to put a bit more effort in.

    I'm going to have a read through the thread and hope to pick up some recipes. I do have a couple of cookbooks, one is the River Cottage one that I love to read (gastroporn eh?) while I dream about getting my own little place in the country, so time to actually start using it.

    Since losing my job a year ago, and then sadly having to become Carer for my DD, I spend a lot of time browsing the web for new recipes (despite having numerous cookery books). The result is, that almost every meal we eat now is one I've found in the last 12 months.

    It's amazing what a difference it makes to meal times, and how you actually look forward to what meal you've got planned, and we now eat more healthily but also more cheaply - can't be bad! :)

    I've already menu planned for the next month, but I found this today, and am thinking I may just have to squeeze it in somewhere STICKY CASHEW CHICKEN.....well.....it'd be rude not to ;)

  • I am going to join in this too. I just bought the good housekeeping one pot recipes book to add to a huge collection. I can sit for ages and read them thinking oh that looks nice and then still end up cooking the same stuff over and over.

  • Great reading this thread. Have not been cooking for months so this has inspired me. I am going to check through my cupboards and freezer and then read through my cookbooks and pick some recipes that not tried.
    Yearly Grocery Budget - £100.77/ £3500. January Treats Budget - £11.80 / £100.
  • Last night I made Jamie's 30 minute meals seabass with pancetta, sweet potatoes and asian greens
    I didn't do the drink or the pudding and used cabbage instead of brocolli and asparagus (asparagus ONLY gets eaten in season in this house :))

    It was really tasty, I would change a couple of things the next time I make it though:
    1) less olive oil in the dressing for the greens. I actually think this would have been good with the chilli, lime, garlic and 1tbsp soy, and some sesame oil, didn't think the olive oil flavour went the asian flavourings (it does seem to be a recurring theme in the book, extra virgin olive oil with thai/indian/chinese etc flavours
    2) not so sure re the mango chutney with the sweet potatoes, I find them very sweet anyway so adding sweet chutney probably increased that. I think without that, and possibly slightly more chilli they would have more balanced and less sweet

    But definitely one that I would make again-just with those few changes :D

    Last night I made a lovely spicy lamb curry, using a recipe from Good Food 101, Best Ever Curries. Am loving this book, as there is a section of 30 minute meals, perfect for a working day.

    Hmmmm, Rabbit was OK, but I wouldn't use that particular recipe again. Next time I will cook the rabbit seperately and strip the meat to put into a pie (My MIL recommended smearing the rabbit with mustard and roasting first :drool:)

    Today it's Lamb Samosas. I am using the recipe in the Hairy Bikers Mums Know Best book [recipe here, scroll down for samosas] and tweaked it slightly to use lamb and vegetables. I am also going to try oven cooking rather than deep frying them.

  • Tonight's dinner was Chickpea curry rolled in chapatis. This was very bland and while I like chickpeas, as a main ingredient I wasn't particularly fussed.
