Hi EE, just catching up as I'm back now.
Best of luck on the debt front this year, you'll do it.
I agree with you on the clutter front, I keep coming across piles of "stuff" & really need to just sort it out rather than leave it until later...which never seems to happen.
We bought one of the document drawer type cabinets rather than a normal filing cabinet as you can't put *too* much in them so have to regularly review what you're keeping.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Good luck for the new year EE and great news with not increasing your debt last year!!
I am a big Marie Kondo fan and loved her book 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up'. She is a bit airy fairy but I loved that about her, loads of Facebook groups on the process and her book is on audio on Youtube. She's pretty popular these days so you might already know about her, but just incase she is of any interest thought I'd let you know xxStarting debt £18,675.63
Current debt: £5,000 (16/05/18)0 -
I had the same mistake with Halifax EE.
I have applied for a 0% Barclaycard and will be shifting the debt. I am supposed to be going to Oxford more this year so my fuel costs need to be added in to the budget. So by doing the card shuffling I will be paying ££200 on cards and keeping £100 for pertrol. If I say no to my family then I will be debt free by June 2019.
BF asked me about the right to buy this house. I said I would have to investigate so I will probably have a chat with you at some stage.
My debt increased by £3,000 as I took on DS and Biggests ones last year! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Thanks reality.
I have the Marie Kondo book and last year (or was it the one before) I did clothes and then DH did his clothes but we never got any further.
I have dug the book out and it is on my bedside table ready to read again.
I am having a declutter as I go and getting rid immediately of the definite things to go and then I will do the Kondo way as soon as I have re-read the book.0 -

Good plan with the credit card - I suppose I could look into a 0% card but I don't really want another credit card while I am trying to get a mortgage and also I am hoping that being charged interest will focus the mind!!
Feel free to ask questions about Right To Buy - I am only part way through the process currently but always happy to share the knowledge I have.
I know it's hard and you have been flamed on your diary for the last few days - I remember it happening every January for the last few years. I guess people go looking for diaries to read, stumble across yours and think they know best.
I would likely take my children's debt on (but definitely not my husbands!!) if I couldn't sort them out themselves.
You are amazing Mooloo and never forget that:j0 -
Thanks everyone for posting on here and thanks for your good wishes:A
Crikey this week has passed in a blur, I have barely done anything I wanted to do.
DH has started a new job and he has to start at 7.30am so to fit in everything that needs doing each morning the alarm is now set for 6am:eek:. I get up at the same time and have been going to work earlier (and leaving earlier) but by the time I get home, walk the dogs, cook tea, have a bath I am shattered and am in bed by 8.30pm which does not leave much time for paperwork and MSE.
I have managed to do about 2 surveys this week but have loads in my inbox but haven't got any spare time at the moment.
Now that DH works in a different town to me we have to travel separately, unfortunately it means I have to find my own parking space, the car park I used to use on odd occasions is £3.90 per day which I know is cheap but if I do that everyday that is basically £80 so I have been parking outside the town centre on a side road and walking in (12 -15mins) so hoping to not only save money but lose some lbs!!
Weekends are my usual time to get things done but today I have driven DS back to Uni.
Usually DH comes with us but he was out last night with his new work colleagues (I was also out with my work but opted not to drink) and got absolutely smashed and is so ill today and has been in bed all day:mad:. Not only did that pee me off but I did not get to bed until 2am as we got home at midnight and he was up for hours being sick, stumbling about etc. At one point I was in bed trying to sleep and I realised he had been in the loo for ages so went down to find him and he was laying in the bath fully clothed (no water)
In the end he slept on the sofa cradling a bowl:rotfl:
I am so angry I have not spoken to him since 8am this morning when I asked him if he was well enough to do his morning job (either walk dogs or do the chickens/turkeys) and he said he wasn't.
DH has a number of medical conditions and one of them is connected to his bile duct, he struggles to process toxins and he knows alcohol affects him badly but he still drunk to excess. This morning he looked like he had severe jaundice which he always looks like when he has got drunk as his bile duct can't cope (and neither can his liver/kidneys:rotfl:)
Tomorrow we are out nearly all day so that is another day when I can't get things done - I need to catch up on all the washing as well as the budget, paperwork and general housework. I feel like there are not enough hours in the day and am seriously thinking about taking a day off work to get some time to do these things.
Maybe next week my body will cope with 6am wake ups and I will be more alert!! (Not sure why it is a struggle because in summer my body naturally wakes up about 5am, the previous year it was 4.30am. I guess the pitch black and the autumnal weather don't help)0 -
Jeez hope OH is better soon. Even if it is his own fault." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Don't be too hard on yourself EE (but be as hard on your hubby as you like).
It's a whole new routine after a bit of a break and it will take a bit of getting used to.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

I'm like you st the moment EE - not enough hours in the day. I get up at 5am in the week but it's hard when it's so dark. Like you by the time I get home from work and have done everything it's about bedtime. Although, as you know, at the moment it all takes twice as long with my broken ankle. I took Friday afternoon off work to get ahead with cleaning and free up some time at the weekend. You can only do so much, don't beat yourself up about it. Hope DH is feeling better soon although self inflicted. I bet you could throttle him, you'd think he'd be more careful with his condition. As much as I enjoy a glass of wine I wouldn't drink if it affected me like that, just not worth it.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0
