  • Thanks everyone for popping in.

DH is right as rain today and we have not discussed Friday night - I fear I may say something I regret. He knows I am disappointed and angry (this is the new me, normally I would have gone on a massive rant but these Agnus tablets are still brilliant) and too be fair he rarely does this - maybe the last time was about 4 or 5 years ago.

The only thing I said to him today was that I was disappointed that he did not see his son off to Uni and he said that actually he was very disappointed in himself. I am pleased that he does have some self-awareness.

Been rushing about all day but have managed to get quite a bit of washing done - some is still drying now (no tumble dryer) and I have faith that I will catch up with it all this week.

Here's to a better week next week and being able to cope with early mornings a bit better - prior to DH's new job I was usually up by 6.30am anyway so not sure why that 30mins makes so much difference.
  • So this week has been much easier - in fact for the last few mornings I have been waking up at 5.57am and sat waiting for the alarm to go off.
I feel much more energetic and not as tired so I am pleased with that.

DH says he is still struggling but then too be honest he could sleep 24hrs a day if he could!!

Now that DH's school are back after Xmas he has to work until 6pm which is great because I get home just after 5pm, walk the dogs, then start tea, wash up from night before and put washing on all before DH is home. I feel more motivated now -It's difficult to explain but when we both came home together DH would loll on the sofa while I ran about doing everything (we would walk dogs together) and it used to pee me right off but now he is not here til later I don't mind doing it all. Long may this continue.

Not caught up on all the washing but getting there - need to pair up all the odd socks. There is a washng basket full, there must be some pairs in there.

DH has been told by his boss that they are so pleased with him (after 1.5 weeks) that they will give him a promotion and payrise in April - DH is very chuffed with this as he feels he is just doing his job but they seem to think he is wonderful. I'm glad his job is going well, as you know he has depression and winter is a bad time for him but with the new job he has a bounce in his step (but not at 6am!!)

Have paid off the xmas presents which I put on the credit card and this leaves me with £861.75 of my own debt to pay off - this is the debt which was 0% but I lost it by paying off some purchases before the statement date.
I am being charged 24.9% interest so I am thinking about raiding some of my savings pots to pay it off - I earn about 1% interest so seems daft to pay so much in interest but I do appreciate that I need savings so I don't use the card but will feel better if I am not paying interest. What do you all think?

Have just taken £30 out of Paypal from when I sold on ebay a few months ago - will pay this to c/c when it shows in my account.
Also have £50 due from cashback for car insurance that I did in August - when this shows I will pay this to c/c.

Need to get on with surveys - have been trying to do Yougov ones and a few short ones but really need to get in a routine each evening.

What are the savings for EE? For example if you said tax bill, I'd say don't do it. But for a general emergency fund then yes it's worth raiding it at those interest rates.

I agree - those interest rates are steep.

I am putting everything I can into the CC debt (even though its all 0%) because I want the visual impetus to driving it down as soon as I can. I am always watching my spend rate like a hawk this month - trying to basically save at least 37% of our income this month to put against the cards. So thats meant no savings or mortgage OP pot..everything is going towards driving the totals on the 2 cards down.

  • I would pay off the CC unless the savings are allocated for something urgent as Bob says.
  • Thanks guys for your comments.

I have loads of pots for different things - car insurance, car repairs, car replacement, help2buy ISA etc.

None are for urgent things like tax.

The Paypal money is showing so moved £30 to the c/c.

I have withdrawn £280 from my Help2Buy ISA and have moved that across. I know I won't be able to make up for what I have withdrawn as the monthly amount is capped but it's looking like we won't buy this time round as the mortgage broker is not going very fast and the time limit for my offer has now expired (so will have to do the whole process again with the local council) - I originally emailed in mid Dec to say that DH's CCJ was now showing as satisfied, I then emailed again last week and got a reply so sent info on DH's wages and still haven't heard anything.
I know DH has a high debt to income ratio but just tell me that instead of dragging it out - Grrr!!!

So that leaves £551.75 to find by 3rd Feb (when statement is due) - my other pots add up to £435 so next week when my cashback shows I will pay that off the card and take the money from my pots which will then leave about £60 to find and as long as I am careful I should be able to pay this off at the end of the month.

DH has decided he needs a car for work - he has his truck which he is using but the thinks a car will be more economical and can he have the money to buy one. I have tried to explain that unless the car would save him at least £80 per month it won't be worth it as he will have to insure, tax, MOT, repair another vehicle and I estimate those costs as £80pm so he should just stick with his truck.
He didn't seem happy but I did remind him that with his pay rise he needs to start paying down his debt otherwise we will never buy this house.

I posted about this on Parsnips thread so ignore if you read it there - this week I have filed my letters/bills as they have come in. It was the mass clear out of the filing cabinet that has led to me being able to do this and I am so chuffed. Usually letters sat downstairs until we needed to tidy up due to visitors, then they would get moved upstairs where they sat about waiting to be filed in a filing cabinet with no room. This week I brought them straight upstairs and filed them - I am so chuffed!!

I agree with the others to pay of the CC with savings, that interest rate is far too high.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
