I've started taking my diet seriously too. For the past 12 years my reasons for dieting have been vanity, however it's hit me that I am 35 on my next birthday, have asthma, and a family history of diabetes and I don't want being overweight to add to any future health problems. It's the first time I have ever wanted to lose weight for health reasons soI am hoping I can stick to a diet this time.
My meals are quite healthy but I snack too much and my portion sizes are massive, so I'm just going to carry on eating normal meals but cut down on portion sizes and unhealthy snacks. Once I've developed a sensible eating pattern (which is something I haven't had in years, it's either fast or feast) I can then try and cut down on calories if I'm not losing weightStart Date: 27/11/2010

I'm finding that this NutraCheck website is good for portion control. I thought I was being healthy having cereal for breakfast, but through the calorie checking have realised that I was having double the amount I thought I was - and that 50g of cereal really isn't a full bowl
I think it's going to work ok for me but I'll see how I feel at the end of the free trial. If the weather is still sunny after work I'm going to walk some of the way home too, all adds to the calorie loss :rotfl:0 -

I started cutting down on my portion sizes too and found that this helped - my main downfall was rice! I used to think eating a packet of Uncle Ben's with a homemade curry was fine until a friend said that her and her husband used to SHARE their packet!
I only started exercising at 29 - I'm 30 now and I'm glad I did as my boyfriend pointed out the older you get the harder it is to get fit... I cycle to and from work everyday (8 miles!) and play in a netball team plus I've started running as I've signed up for the York 10k in August! Hopefully I'll actually complete it and won't still be running into the early hours!!0 -
Portion control is my main problem too - Well that, chocolate and crisps!!:eek:
I am on Weightwatchers, have been for 2 and a half years now - I don't pay for classes either as I help out during the meeting, that saves me £18 per month
I have still got about a stone to lose and am doing the Great Scottish Walk in June with my leader and other members of the class. I am hoping that will get me to my goal weight by the summer.

Currently sitting at 320 calories under my allowance for today and trying to ignore the voice in my head saying "Eat the Magnum in the freezer......EAT IT"
Watching Masterchef probably isn't helping :rotfl:

Leave it alone and enjoy the ice cream tomoz instead.
Same place as usual about 7pm ok?:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -

I did Weightwatcher too and am chuffed that I lost nearly 2 stone! Haven't been for ages but I think I'm a 'Goldmember' as I've stayed within my target weight for so long so don't have to pay. I did the Core Plan and it really worked for me as I could still eat things without having to completely stop which is a killer - no coffee and sugar gave me a constant headache and I was in a complete a*se all the time! I just changed to sweetener and was fine!
Still had a curry treat at the weekend and took it out of my points and if I was going out drinking I would save up my points... Sorry for hijacking the thread by the way F_F! xx0 -
I resisted the Magnum - went for three lonely squares of chocolate instead. I don't know how thin people do it
Have designated tomorrow as my "day off" on the website, so it has allowed me another 600 calories :j0
