The US (or certainly the network these phones are on) has a sneaky PAYG scheme where you credit expires after a period of time.

So a $30 topup will expire in maybe 30 days. A $200 topup will expire in maybe 200 days.

If theyre going to be used regularly, and people have their dates planned, it makes sense for a bunch of people to share a large topup, as the smaller topups will probably expire by the time the next person goes.

But it cant be topped up online unless someone has a US credit card.

And will it have been disconnected by the time the next person goes.

And where to you get credits for that network on the strip?

So, all that leads me to say that buy a disposable phone with $20 credit for $30 in Walmart (if you have a car)......unless someone wants to run the group scheme.

    Just my 2p.

Thanks for the summary, I'm sure it's been discussed before but I haven't paid attention as I hadn't intended to buy one before...I hadn't realised that the top-ups would have an expiry date...and since we would likely use the phone to make only a very few calls on a Vegas trip (possibly none - was only thinking it would be nice to have so people could reach us, we don't think we would really use them to get in touch with each other), and maybe 3 or 4 on a visit to see family...maybe a Tracfone or similar won't really be for us. I have a US credit card, but it has a UK address now so suspect that's out. May be back to the drawing board (and did remember I have an old mobile in a drawer here so may explore the SIM option).

As for the Triker phones, I'm grateful that they may be available, but I think at most we would only want one and no sense in splitting them up...especially since we're unlikely to really use them much at all. :)

Dont know if anyone else has mentioned it but while we were there in Aug, M and M opened a personalise your m and m machine. You can write any message you like and a few pre determined pics.
i'd mentioned it in my trip report but you've explained it a lot better! :)

thats up to Triker . she is the original owner , but other MSE Members may be heading out first , and she may be okay with them having them first .

djc2006 had PM'd me asking me for them and i know Ferf had a trip planned and could make use .

can dcj2006 , Ferf and Triker post their dates and then we can know who can have them first , and who that person should then post them to when they get back .Anyone else who may want them post here now with your dates .

i assume these phones can easily be topped up with credit , so that who ever uses them can add some credit for the next person ect . :A

    Hi tretts77 and Sammz
I'm on off to Vegas onthe 13th Oct for 5 nights so if the phones are available that would be great.
5 off us going so i guess these will come in use to keep contact between us also can these be used to call back to England.
Can you let me know if the above is correct, how easy are they to top up ?
    Thanks

And since we go on the 14th and are unlikely to make very much use of them...clearly djc would be the better recipient if they are available. :)

I'm happy to send them to djc. I didn't end up using them so have no idea how they work, I'm afraid. We looked for a place to top them up on the first couple of days but somehow got distracted. Something to do with the amazing place, I guess!

Hi all, back from my second trip today... head and body haven't a clue what time of day it is but that's the joys of a redeye flight home (LAS-ORD-LHR in our case). Will write up a TR shortly, it probably isn't very exciting for most as we didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

We did however slot in a trip to Peppermill on the back of it being mentioned on here; and pleased I am that we did.

More when head and body have reconnected :-)

I'm sure Triker can post and let us know the in's and out's of the phones . how hard can it be to top up a PAYG phone ? or buy new sims with credit ?

DCG2006 is off soon so , you should PM Sammz your delivery address . after that hold on to them a while in case anyone else wants them but , you should obtain Trikers delivery address with the intention of sending them to her around January time :A
