I asked about this (on here) before we went this year and didnt get any replies so you may be the first person on here who has done it.
I must admit I forgot all about it once we were there although I think knowing it was going to be 100 plus every day put me off a bit.
could you drive them flat out, how fast? and did you get covered in sand[/QUOTE]
hiya
yeah it was hot when we went too, i think it peaked at 107 or something but we chose the pick up time of 9am as they said it would be 4 hours door to door so we would be back in hotel by one and hopefully miss the intense afternoon heat and midday sun (if thats possible in vegas) also when your are driving you obviously have a breeze so you dont feel the heat, as long as you suncream within an inch of ur life and cover ur shoulders u should be fine. we didnt burn or feel too hot suprisingly!
yes you could go to their maximum speed-which was 45mph which my oh was disappointed to hear as he thought it was slow.....until we got out there and it honestly felt like 70mph! the terrain is not flat and full of drop offs and dunes and rocky bits but the entire time we had the pedal to the floor (its essentially automatic thank goodness) i was literally being thrown like a rag doll (there are 5 point harnesses and full face helmets and googles but my arms and legs wre bouncing!)
and yes we got absolutely covered in sand. they had warned us to wear trousers and t-shirts and i bought a light cardi as the sand gets flicked up in places from the car in front and hits you at speed! it doesnt hurt but you will get filthy. my oh took a dune too fast for the angle on it and i seriously thought we were going to roll - it was maybe a 10ft steep dune - we didnt rool but we skidded out like a handbrake turn and hit another dune which emptied what must have been 2 bucket loads of sand over our heads and down my top lol! when we got back to the room i had to empty the sand outta my clothes and underwear into the bath - thats how sandy you get!!!!

Thanks for that, I guessed you would get covered in sand, i have done a bit of off road racing and banger racing in the past, I think I will have to have a go at this next time0 -

The missus' worst nightmare! 'Odd' looking spider webs outside our Furnace Creek accommodation
Temperature at 4:45 in Death Valley (I bet American's hate having hire cars after us as we always change the temperature to celcius )
I'm not sure the sign in Death Valley was entirely necessary...
The beast!
A passer by outside our room!
A coyote (we think!) walking down the 16th hole

Aprilthat frog is creepy...:)
And I don't think I realised Nathan's does salads...this is the hot dog place? Or something else?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MayAfter receiving the BA sale e-mail a couple of weeks ago & studying/comparing different flights, I have gone for it & booked for a week in May. We went to Vegas for the first time in May this year and was absolutely blown away by the place. We flew with Continental (very good) via Houston, but was very keen to go direct this time. We wanted to return in March for hubbies birthday, but MGM was very expensive due to the basketball tournament & spring break, so have opted for May, which we found to be much more reasonable. We rushed about so much to try & fit it all in. Hoping to chill a bit by the pool this time & take longer to look round the hotels......and gamble a bit more!!!
Happy with the flight price (well, would have liked it to be cheaper, but in comparison to other carriers!). Heathrow - Vegas direct in May £525 each. Have booked MGM through the 3 day sale & was pleased with the rates that week. May even change it for Bills gambling hall, as we spent so little time in our room this year & that was only $444 for the week, cheap & cheerful, with no resort fees. Liked the entertainment in there (& the 99c cocktails) and will have more $$$'s to gamble with. Main thing is, the flights are booked.I didn't think we would be going back to Vegas so soon & as the end of sale was approaching I couldn't stop thinking about it, so we went for it!!! So excited!!! :j:j:j0 -
Yay! That does it, I am absolutely getting them next time...I have been intrigued before, and had tentatively decided that I'm getting them next month, but this seals it.that frog is creepy...:)

we may have caught another after that but i was a bit drunk so cant recall at the moment! - we thought the snake was most impressive of the bunch! And I don't think I realised Nathan's does salads...this is the hot dog place? Or something else?

rightly or wrongly, i always associated the smell as you walk in NYNY with Nathans! that sweet sickly smell! perhaps its the pretzels tho?0 -
NVH some great pics thanks.
What does everyone (who has seen it) think of the exterior of City Centre.
I dont like it. Viewed from the back it looks like a bunch of office blocks and from the front it only looks slightly better IMO. To me its not the Vegas I love0 -
October , NovemberHi
My girlfriend and I are going to Vegas in November and I was just wondering about the types of drinks in the US.
Me I will be sticking to the beer and maybe the odd white russian. My gf on the other hand is a bit pickier and only drinks bacardi breezer or west coast cooler.
Are there any equivalents to these in the US that she could try out?
Thanks

MayI don't like City Center. It looks a lot better now it's finished as I really hated it as it was going up, but I still don't like it.0
