    Hi guys
9 days left!!!!! Woohoo! And thankfully they've called off the strike!
    I cannae bloody wait!!!
Just a quick question I will need to call home once a day at least (leaving my gorgeous one year old baby with my parents so will be a neurotic mum calling all the time!!!) what's the best way to do this? Calling card and then use a payphone? I have read the first page etc and I'm sure there was another post but I can't find it! Where is the best place to buy a calling card? And which one to buy?
    Thanks guys
    Kate

Is this reasonably walkable or is it a taxi ride? Is it safe to walk? What would the taxi ride cost approx?

    Cheers

You could take a free shuttle to Rio from one of the Harrahs properties and walk from there...less than a mile each way I think...wouldn't worry me to walk it in daylight - from what I remember it's mainly an industrial/office sort of area, not really touristy. Cab ride probably less than $10 each way.

There's both a CVS and a Walgreens south of Paris - Walgreens I think is the one on the east side of the strip, so Paris side...it's been said before, but do not buy any phone cards in machines at the hotels on the strip - they are really, really poor value (learned the hard way many years ago).

Personally, when we've used calling cards we've just called from the room...it's usually about $1.50 or so for the first 20 minutes to an 800 number (after that is a per-minute charge). I find it a lot more comfortable than using a pay phone.

    Only 7 days to go!

Crown currency arrived today - 1.57 rate, no bills over a $50.

I have tickets for mystere, a few groupons and restaurant vouchers.

Car hire sorted through Carhire 3000.

I'll book a heli trip to the canyon out there (have a voucher, but liked Maverick last time).

One thing, anyone know what the Penn and Tellor availability is like at Tix4tonight?

    Getting excited!:D

Bodies is available at Tix4Tonight...not sure the price though. Shark Reef is vastly overpriced in my opinion - if you have ever been to a good aquarium I think you may be disappointed. I'm sure I saw a coupon for Shark Reef recently but not sure where.

    $4 off Manhattan Express here:

    May be others.

What's the full cost of these things? If you really want to do them all, and can't find easy discounts online, and if the $54 works out quite a lot cheaper, maybe go for it rather than hunting about for vouchers when you arrive? Just depends on how much you want to do these things I think. I'm not sure you will find 2-for-1s for these things.

Agree with Ferf, shuttle to Rio and then walk.

I always drive there but it is perfectly safe to walk from the Rio it is an industrial area

Very few places in Vegas where it isnt safe to walk

Could always pick up a cab at the Rio going there-and walk back to the Rio once you knew the way (the shuttle from Bills to the Gold Coast would work too)

hi maybe this is a stupid question we are travelling to vegas next year and i've just filled in our esta's before the charge comes in and was wondering if my passport will be ok its still the older machine readable version(it doesnt expire till 2013) i've travelled to vegas on it before but the rest of the family have the newer passports with the chip and the last thing i'd want is for me to be left behind!!!!!

As long as it is machine readable you will be ok, you don't need the chip one ;)
